Where in the Scriptures are we commanded to search for barley and only start the year around the time of the ripening of barley?

Question: Where in the Scriptures are we commanded to search for barley and only start the year around the time of the ripening of barley? Why do you at WLC base your calendar principles on Jewish traditions instead of the Scriptures?

Answer:  

Exodus 34:22 speaks of 'wheat' not barley and keep in mind that there are two harvests in a year - Barley was always reaped just about when the wheat was growing up. 

Exodus 9:31
And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bolled.
32But the wheat and the rie were not smitten: for they were not grown up.

The barley and flax were destroyed by the plague of hail in Egypt  just before Creator re-launched His Luni-solar calendar – which the “Jews” had lost while under the bondage of slavery in that country.

Why the specific mention of that agricultural season / time of year, in the exodus account - if it was not significant? Was it not indicative of what specific point in time it was - just before the NEW YEAR began? (Ex.12)
Exodus 12:1And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying,
2This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
The first Passover was about to be instituted.  Although the time passage is not specifically stated, there were only two plagues - locusts then darkness (Exodus 10) - remaining before Passover. (Ex.12)
Those events depict end time birth pains, which Creator says will become closer and more intense as His 2nd coming nears. (Matt.24 Mark 13) It is therefore reasonable to believe that not much time had elapsed between the plague of hail (which destroyed the not yet quite mature barley) and Passover in Egypt.

Were the Jews ' searching for barley' back then in Egypt?  No, but its destruction before their very eyes, must have been very striking and memorable.
What was Y—H showing them?
Was it not a significant sign placed in scripture for them to remember, as a future reference point for the start of the NEW YEAR in Creator's true Luni-solar calendar?

These two plants were very magnificently symbolic - of among other things, wealth, protection/breaking of the law, bondage, Y--H's standards/requirements/consequences - eg. the items of LINEN made from flax in the sanctuary, the priest's /church/saints' robes of righteousness (Revelation), offerings, etc.


The color BLUE in TORAH is symbolic of the many facets of the LAW - protection / liberty / etc. Guess the color of the flax blossom - that's right, it is BLUE !!!

(Josh.2:6)The flax did for RAHAB (purchased her redemption)when she hid the spies under drying stalks of flax, freed them with the scarlet rope (made of twine from flax?) left hanging from her window, sign of protection, as in Passover!

The barley did for Ruth - (Ruth 1:22, ch.2:3,11,15 (17)
See barley and the purity/fidelity of women in marriage etc (1 Ephah of barley (Num.5:12-15) the same amount gathered by (Ruth:2:17) in the process of her redemption/purification as a Moabitess adopted as a mother in Israel.

SPECIAL NOTE - flax/Rahab, barley/Ruth - the sequence just as mentioned in Egypt (Ex.9:31) is the same in Christ's genealogy (Mat.1:5)!

Flax - Sampson (Judg. 15:14) Christ Is.42:3, Eze.40:3, Rev.11:1? also ref. Is.19:9,16,18 etc
The above is just a glimpse of those two plants and what they represented at the start of Creator's Luni-solar calendar!

It makes a very interesting study - which actually preceded and helped my acceptance of the Luni-solar calendar.
I readily accept - the barley on earth in combination with Sun, moon, stars in the heavens as markers for the times and seasons of Creator's Luni-solar calendar.
Spend some time on an 'primitive' farm - where plants and animals (and people) are strongly influenced by elements of nature - and especially the moon. You will soon find that this is not just superstition or human tradition!
City dwellers might never experience any of this, the older farmers did. Before advancements in technology etc - they had to rely only on Y--H's appointed times and seasons to be successful in their agrarian endeavors.
Some will rightly claim that modern methods, genetic manipulation, irrigation etc will throw off the timing of the barley harvest - which no longer fully depends on Y--H's natural provision of the early and the latter rains for the barley to ripen.

The enemy uses all of this new technology to the benefit of his long planned agenda!
This is part of the 'BREACH' to be repaired.

Examine all of the texts quoted regarding the absence of barley for observance (from Noah's flood to Elijah's 3.5 year drought/famine) and you find a state of APOSTASY – EVERYTIME – fulfilling -
 
Hosea 2:11
I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.

Conclusion - the 'barley search' was NOT just a 'Jewish tradition' instituted by 'human wisdom' it was the result of a very dramatic sign given by Creator as a fact of history and uniquely recorded in scripture - marking the beginning of Creator's Luni-solar New year!

We will do well to take heed and follow this example from the LAMB - wherever HE goes - even into the barley fields!
