Chapter 67
Before the day of the lord, who was to be sent to the world?
"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD." Malachi 4:5.
In whom was this prophecy partially fulfilled?
"For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come." Matthew 11:13,14.
What objection was raised by the scribes to Christ's mission?
"And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?" Matthew 17:10.
What answer was made to this?
"And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. "But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist." Matthew 17:11-13.
What was John's Testimony of himself?
"And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No." John 1:21.
How is this apparent discrepancy explained?
"And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." Luke 1:17.
When was this spirit and power to be manifested?
"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD." Malachi 4:5.
What else was to take place before that "terrible" day?
"The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come." Joel 2:31.
Was that day still future in Peter's time?
"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." 2 Peter 3:10.
What did the spirit of Elijah lead him to do?
"And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word." 1 Kings 18:21.
After boldly declaring the truth, what was Elijah compelled to do?
"Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time. And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there." 1 Kings 19:2,3.
What charge was brought against Elijah?
"And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?" 1 Kings 18:17.
How did Elijah feel?
"But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers." 1 Kings 19:4.
What did the Lord do for Elijah?
"And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven." 2 Kings 2:11.
What will the last message before the Lord comes demand of the faithful?
"And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand. "The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." Revelation 14:9-12.
How will the remnant church be generally regarded for thus keeping God's commandments?
"And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." Revelation 12:17.
How far may we expect this persecution to be carried against those who will not yield to the power of the beast?
"And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed." Revelation 13:15.
If faithful, what will be done for these persecuted ones?
"And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God." Revelation 15:2.
How will the Lord gather His faithful ones in the last great struggle?
"And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." Matthew 24:31.

Not to add to your confusion, but this is what I believe, until someone presents a better explanation. God has given us only what we need to know, not necessarily what we want to know.
Anyhow, here goes. The Two Witnesses are Elijah and Moses. I say this because they did the same works that they do during their prophecying that they did earlier in the bible. Elijah prayed for it not to rain for 3 1/2 years, and Moses caused water to turn to blood and also to strike the earth with plagues.
Elijah was taken to heaven on a chariot of fire; and Michael the archangel contended with the devil, disputing about the body of Moses in Jude vs 9.
During the Transfiguration in Matthew 17:3 Moses and Elijah appeared, talking to Jesus. Also in Mark 9:4, and Luke 9:30
Why else would God want the body of Moses? Everyone sees the grave, except for Elijah, Moses and Enoch, who walked with God, and he was not, for God took him; (Genesis 5:24)
I hope I didn't make it worse.
Peace,

I have a puzzling question that astounded my whole life and resulted in keeping my mind occupied continuously to search for the answer to learn the truth behind what the Bible revealed to us regarding the Two Witnesses of chapter 11 of the book of Revelation. Those two people who shall appear just before the appearance of the Lord on the cloud, and consequently before His second coming to establish His Millennium reign.
In that chapter of the Bible, we read about two personalities that shall appear at the end of the time exactly three and half years before the appearance of the Lord on the clouds. These two personalities are referred to be the Two Witnesses that will oppose the work of the Beast and the false prophet, and will set their action to work against their abominable works. From that chapter we understand that no body could possibly attempt to hinder their work during the said period until their testimonies are completed. Many people who would try to stand in their ways will be killed by the power and the miracles they will do, such as fire proceeding out of their mouth to consume their enemies. Furthermore, and in that manner any body who would attempt to stand in their ways will assuredly and certainly be killed. In addition, those two persons will cause much suffering to come against the inhabitants of the earth who will be extremely annoyed and tormented by their actions. Although I have questioned the identity of these two prophets with many theologians and highly taught pastors who devoted their life to understanding Bible prophecies and Bible interpretations, I never received a satisfying answer from any body including those who either claimed they will be Moses and Elijah, or Elijah and Enoch. There predictions were based on the fact that those two people never experienced death but ascended to heaven without dying. Others said that these two people are only a figure that resembles those who will die by the power of the Beast and the false prophets at the end of time, and that they are not truly two persons, but resemble many people who will oppose the work of the Beast and his image, who is the false prophet.
Now if those two people are only figure that resembles many who will testify the truth against the Beast and the false prophets, and that they only do the work of the devil, who will be in full control of the world during their testimonies, then when they are killed in the streets of Jerusalem causing the whole world to be glad and rejoice for their death to the point that they would prevent any body to put them in a grave or bury them after their death, but will send each others gifts celebrating their death because of the torment they have received from the Two all over the world on account that they accepted the Beast and his mark and who followed after the Beast and his false prophet, then if we assume that, meaning they resemble many and not two, then many people who could be thousands of thousand that will oppose the Beast and his image the false prophet, would then be slain and killed, and thrown in the streets of Jerusalem and therefore the scene of seeing that many people thrown in the streets of Jerusalem dead and remained as such cannot possibly reveal the truth. It is very unlikely that that many of dead bodies remain in the street of Jerusalem, which could exceed the inhabitant of Jerusalem itself. Such a scene would definately render the mind to believe that these two people are literally and actually two people and not many.
Now, if those two people are then two real people shown dead by the whole world and thrown in the street of Jerusalem for three and a half days, the question that I have in my mind is: "From the current events that we are witnessing before our eyes on the signs that reveal that we are living in so very close to witness the return of Christ and the rise of the Kingdom of the Beast and his false prophet. If that seems to be true, then who will those people be"? Will they be Jewish? Will they testify only to the Jews? Or will the whole world be included in their testimonies? From my understanding, those two will be those who are on the right and the left of Christ's hand whom Zachariah prophesied as being the two entities that stand before the True Lord of the whole earth, who is Christ Himself.
Could you provide an answer, or refer to any studies done on those two people regarding their entity and their personality whom will resurrect three and a half days after their death and be caught up to the appearing Christ who will come at their resurrection seen standing on the cloud!
Can you please answer this question without adding to the confusion that I already have in my mind regarding the entities of the Two Witnesses?
God Bless!

While not entirely convinced, I have yet been unable to rule out the interpretations that John the Apostle may still be alive until the return of Messiah. It is still somewhat unclear whether there is a definite distinction between John the Immerser (Presbyter) and John the Apostle. I have also read that Elazar (Lazarus) is John the Apostle, also described as beloved of Messiah. The interpretation is based upon the precept that men die only once before the resurrection and Elazar had already been raised (though he may merely have been "sleeping") and must remain until the Day of Elohim.
All of that aside I believe there is ample evidence that within the context of Revelation the two witnesses only fit one of two interpretations:
either the two witnesses refer to the Old and New Covenant of Scripture or;
to Enoch and Eliyah; or both. The truth will make Scripture more clear, not hazy nor less certain.
