The Bible text does not give many clues, and we should perhaps not be too dogmatic about it. Ellen White makes the following remarks: "The special light given to John which was expressed in the seven thunders was a delineation of events which would transpire under the first and second angels' messages. It was not best for the people to know these things, for their faith must necessarily be tested." 7BC 971.

In other words, the thunders described the Great Disappointment of 1844 beforehand to John. Why would something like that need to be given to John is of course another question, one we may not be able to answer. This explanation is in the context of concerns of people who went through the Great Disappointment and was perhaps not intended to be taken as an absolute. While it may seem a bit parochial, there is no reason why that explanation is not the valid one, nor is there any reason why the messages given to John did not include other secrets besides the Great Disappointment of 1844, secrets of which we know nothing.

In the Bible, God tells us the reason for why He doesnot want John to tell us about those things in particular. In Daniel12:4,9,10..God makes His point clear through Jesus Christ in Matthew 24:1-51, that He alone has the authority to reveal the mysteries to whom so ever He desires. So, Wait for the Lord and Watch.Amen,Come soon Lord Jesus, Amen.
