Paul is not speaking here of any of God's Sabbaths. He was addressing this to the newly converted Galatians who once worshiped pagan gods. It would greatly help your understanding of what Paul in his letter to the Galatians was warning them against if you begin in Gal 4 vs. 8 instead of vs. 9. Gal 4:8 "But then, indeed when you did not know God, you served those which by nature are not gods". The Galatians were gentiles who did not know or worship the true God. They worshiped false/pagan gods. The "weak and beggarly elements" spoken of here are not God's Sabbsaths. The Sabbath, annual Sabbaths, or any other festivals of the Jews is nowhere mentioned in Galatians. Gal 4:9 says “But NOW after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you TURN AGAIN to the weak and beggarly elements to which you desire again to be in bondage? “How could the Galatians be returning to something they never observed? The word for elements in the Greek is stoicheia which refers to the "elements of the world" vs. 3 and vs. 9 "weak and beggarly elements" spoken of here are referring to the stars, sun, moon and planets that were associated with their pagan gods/goddesses. It was referring to their pagan festivals which they observed. Duet 18 God called the fortune tellers “observers of times”. These elements of the world had to do with astrology and the signs of heaven that God spoke of the gentiles being dismayed at in Jer 10:2. Why would Paul call any part of God’s law “weak and beggarly elements” or “elements of the world”. This does not make sense. Paul said in Romans “the law was holy, righteous, just and good.” Paul was still observing God’s Sabbath and Holy days. Why would he now call them “weak and beggarly” and “elements of the world”? The main issue Paul was dealing with was, some of the Jews were telling the Galatians that they had to be circumcised in order to be justified. That in order to be heirs of the promise to Abraham they had to be circumcised. Paul was clearly warning them against this in Gal 5. that justification comes only through faith in Christ and not by works of any law. PRAISE GOD!! I believe the “yoke of bondage” spoken of in Gal 5:1 refers to circumcision and the sacrificial/ceremonial laws and not God’s Sabbath, Sabbaths, statutes, judgments or precepts, which God or Paul would never refer to as a “yoke of bondage”. Before you left the SDA church, did you talk to anyone about these sabbath days on the calander,what did they say? I wasn't sda until year 2000. In my search for truth, I knew Rome had a part to play but all the churches I went to would not talk re:Rome church, some would get mad at me if I would bring it up, so I thought that was odd. I wanted Gods truth so over the years in my search God lead me to the SDA church i went there when they had one of there semenars with Kenneth Cox know one invited me I went on my own, I saw it it the paper.I went to listen to hear what they had to say, No one said anything to me because I did'nt look like them but that was ok, because I was seeking Gods truth not people,But as I listened the pieces of my puzzle was coming together and as I learned more about what they taught, even more came together.I read the Desire of ages, and my heart melted, I know a lot of the stuff is truth. I asked God if there was more for me, I wanted ears to hear. For me the Sabbath for people right now, to walk in is hard. The way the system is. How much harder is it going to be with this new calander,Help me to understand I know God wants people to be faithful to Him. I dont think our goverments going to bring back Gods calander, I am all for everything on Gods day. My question is how? (b) His seal / signature to all scripture. Look at the seal of the PRESIDENT (his title) of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,(his territory) 2010 (the date) then look at the 4th commandment -- He created (CREATOR - His title) the heavens and the earth (HIS territory) and rested on the 7th day (the date - earth was only 7 days old then!) If this seal / signature is ever discarded, then the entire scriptures are left unsigned by the author! (c) His standard / sign / flag which we raise to be identified with Him as His people (among all the other so called gods). (d) His identification as the only One Who sanctifies us. (e) The day He sanctified / set apart / made holy / after the creation week, as HIS own HOLY DAY, and gave it to MAN for whom it was made - (Adam and Eve) who were not 'JEWS'. Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Mark 2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. Q. If it was made for man - would He have kept such a beautiful / necessary gift (of weekly rest) from Adam - and hold it in reserve for thousands of years -- especially for the 'Jews' only? It was later reintroduced in the wilderness (confirmed by the absence and miraculous preservation of manna) then later written in stone at Sinai to REMIND them - because they had been in bondage in Egypt, and deprived of it under slavery and had 'FORGOTTEN' it -- that is why He said 'REMEMBER' the Sabbath day to 'KEEP it HOLY' - because He had already MADE it HOLY, they were to continue to 'KEEP' it holy! And if you say it is not for today - read it again - it was also for the animals - so consider this - Q. Did the cross instantly transform humans and animals into 'super beings' which no longer need weekly PHYSICAL REST? Does it not remain a very practical necessary gift for our well being - just as it did in the 'old' testament? How does 'faith' in Christ fulfill that physical need? There can be nothing found 'weak and beggardly' in the law which reflects the very character of Creator.
