Not the Trinity Nor 3 gods but One God Print E-mail

The Father

1. How many gods does the Bible teach exist?

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Exodus 20:3.

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD." Deuteronomy 6:4.

"hath not one God created us?" Malachi 2:10.

"And this is life eternal that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." John 17:3.

"there is none other God but one." 1 Corinthians 8:4.

"But to us there is but one God." 1 Corinthians 8:6.

"One God and Father of all." Ephesians 4:6.

"For there is one God." 1 Timothy 2:5.

"Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." James 2:19.

2. What is the common title given in the Bible to the One God?

"Have we not all one father?" Malachi 2:10.

"But to us there is but one God, the Father." 1 Corinthians 8:6.

"Grace be to you and peace from God the Father." Galatians 1:3; 2 Corinthians 1:2; Romans 1:7.

"According to the will of God and our Father." Galatians 1:4.

"One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Ephesians 4:6.

"Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father."1 Corinthians 1:3; Ephesians 1: 2; Philippians 1:2;  Colossians 1:2; 1 Thessalonians 1:1; 2 Thessalonians 1:2.

3. Is the one God, our Father, the father of Jesus Christ as well?

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ." Ephesians 1:3.

"I ascend unto my Father, and your Father." John 20:17.

"One God and Father of all." Ephesians 4:6.

Conclusion: The Bible teaches that there is but one God, who is the Father of all.

Christ

4. Who is Christ?

"And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God." John 6:69.

5. Is ‘the Son of living God’ a mere title given to Christ or is He in reality the very son of the Father?

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given." Isaiah 9:6.

"Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?" Proverbs 30:4.

6. If Christ is a ‘real’ son of God, has the Bible confirmed a beginning to His existence?

"But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." Micah 5:2.

And the Son of God declares concerning Himself: 'The Lord possessed Me in the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I was set up from everlasting. . .When He appointed the foundations of the earth: then I was by Him, as one brought up with Him: and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him.' Proverbs 8:22-30." Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 34

7. Does the New Testament confirm the Old Testament regarding the true and literal sonship of Christ?

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14.

"No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him." John 1:18.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16.

"He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." John 3:18.

"In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him." 1 John 4:9.

Conclusion: The One God at one point from everlasting begat Christ, His only begotten son. And if what God gave was not His real and only begotten, then Abraham’s test would not have been a meaningful type.

The Only-Begotten Son

8. What did the one God, the Father of all, pass unto His only begotten?

"For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself." John 5:26.

"The brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person." Hebrews 1:3.

9. What does it mean that God passed His glory to His only begotten Son?

"And he said, I beseech thee, show me thy glory. And he said, I will make all my goodness pass." Exodus 33:18, 19.

"It pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell." Colossians 1:19.

10. Did the one God pass on His name to His only begotten Son?

"For unto which of the angels said he God at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever." Hebrews 1:5, 8.

11. What else was passed by the Father unto His only begotten?

"But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." Romans 8:9.

Conclusion: God passed unto His only begotten Son, unconditional ‘life in Himself’. As the baby becomes independent of the mother once he is born, Christ became self-existent once He was begotten of the Father. Self-existence was inherent in His birth. In addition to self-existence, the Son received from His Father His very character [goodness], and thus His express image.

There was nothing that the Father had which was not passed unto the His only begotten Son.

Even the very Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, is shared by His Son. Christ naturally inherited the name of His Father God. Christ was not, however, co-existent with His Father, being the Son.

Relationship Between Father And Son

12. What did Christ say about His relationship to His Father?

"If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I." John 14:28.

"The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do." John 5:19.

"I can of mine own self do nothing…because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me." John 5:30.

13. How did Christ regard His Father?

"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God." John 17:3.

"Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God." John 20:17.

"I and my Father are one." John 10:30.

‘Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God." Philippians 2:6.

14. In what manner was Christ one with the Father?

Christ, the Word, the only begotten of God, was one with the eternal Father--one in nature, in character, in purpose--the only being that could enter into all the counsels and purposes of God.” Patriarchs and Prophets, page 34

Conclusion: Christ was one with the Father in nature, character, and purpose. But did not regard Himself as an equal to His Father. God invested in Christ every authority and made Him equal.

Submission Of The Son To The Father

15. How does the Bible demonstrate the submission of Son to His Father, the one God?

"And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's." 1 Corinthians 3:23.

"But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man; and the head of Christ is God." 1 Corinthians 11:2.

"That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him." Ephesians 1:17.

"One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Ephesians 4:5, 6.

"For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under [him, it is] manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all." 1 Corinthians 15:27, 28.

Conclusion: The one God, the Father, has made His son His equal in nature, character, and purpose; His full and only co-partner. This reality does not negate, however, the submission of the Son to His Father, who is the one God, who rules over all including the Son.

16. Does the Biblical fact of Christ’s submission to His Father affect our worship of the Son?

"That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him." John 5:23.

Conclusion: Our worship of the Son is not affected one iota by His submission to His Father. We willingly and happily worship Christ for in Him dwells the full deity of His Father, the one God. We also worship the Son for He is our Saviour, Redeemer, and Advocate before His and our Father. Lastly, we worship Him because He is the only begotten Son of the one God

The Holy Spirit

17. Who is the Holy Spirit?

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Romans 8: 9

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Galatians 4: 6

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. John 14: 16- 18

Conclusion: The Holy Spirit is none other than the very Spirit of Christ which proceeded from the Father, the one God, [of whom [are] all things]. 1 Corinthians 8: 6.

18. Does Jesus have a spirit that is separate from His Father’s spirit?

Every being in the universe has his own individual spirit. Even a dog has a spirit, according to the Bible. Jesus, therefore, has His own individual Spirit. "And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father" (Galatians 4:6). "For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:19). But Christ's Spirit is so submitted to God's Spirit that they can rightly be called one, just as "he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit" (1 Corinthians 6:17). It is only through the reality of this fact, that we can have fellowship with Christ as we do have fellowship with our heavenly Father. The Bible says, "That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ" (1 John 1:3). We do not have fellowship with the Father and Son through our bodies. Our bodies do not interact physically with the Father and the Son's bodies. Instead, we have fellowship with the Father and the Son by their Spirit. If the Son does not have His own individual Spirit, then we could not fellowship with Him in any different way that we do the Father. Thus, through this clear distinction between the Father's Spirit and the Son's spirit, we can have personal fellowship with both the Father and the Son. "Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son." (2 John 1:9). The only way we can have both the Father and the Son today is if both of them have a Spirit, for we do not have both of their bodies.

Conclusion: Yes, Jesus has a separate and distinct spirit from His Father's Spirit, though it is fully submissive to the Spirit of His father.

It is time to worship the one God in truth and spirit, and to repent of our past ignorance and blasphemies. This is our prayer to our Father, the one God, who is above all, and we lift it in the name of His only begotten son, Jesus Christ.

I have just written a comment but I also wanted to add one more thing that I myself find very important to share with other and that I also would appreciate if some would give their opinions about. The thing is different so called religions. Now there are of course some that are difficult to include. But to try to make it as simple as possible.I don't think God cares what a person call him and there are also some religions that have more than one God.I think the most important thing is to live after the ten holy commands even if some primitive people, for example in the rainforests never have heard of the bible and worships a different God or Gods and also have different name on him or them.Or like the indians before in USA.I think the most important thing is to try to follow theese ten commands which theese people often do "by nature"or "common sense" without being "sinners".I also would like to add that before when the missionaires came to Africa to learn the "primitive" people to believe in the only God,they often destroyed more than helped by saying that their gods were "evil" instead of trying to explain and also understand about their way to believe in their sort of God and also Gods.I think that if they should have tried to listen and understand their religion and way to believe they should have found out that it wasn't so big difference at all. They maybe also should have understood that thing I mentioned before, that God doesn't care what a person calls him as long as he lives after his commands.Zezzan 1959

I think we are all part of God and the Holy spirit lives within us but we need our body to be here on earth. When we die we will go up to the father as holy spirit but where he is and where we will go we shall not now.My belief is that if we knew what will happen after we "die" and when we will come "home" should make it very difficult for us to live here on earth.I think we should want to go "home" if we remember the place that is our "real'home with our father.I myself think it is also possible that the soul which lives within us and is our personality,so to speak has been here before in other bodies and other times. That's why I'm not saying that people who can remember earlier lives and remember that they have lived before are liars.Ofcourse there are som that make it from their fanatasies but people who really speaks the truth often can give information and facts that are very difficult to create from fantasies. Also some so called mediums that can find lost people or telling what has happened to people that has disapeared must get their knowledge from our holy father. Now I speak about the ones that are honest and also manage to help a lot of times. There is no doubt that this power must come from somewhere "above".From our one and only "Father".I hope I could explain myself so you understand what I'm trying to say.Zezzan 1959.

Jesus our Saviour.
written by Kenneth Gangte, April 22, 2009
Nowhere do we find in the Bible that denies Jesus as God!! Rather there are ample evidence from the Scriptures that Jesus was in fact God! However, we must understand the 'when'!

Jesus was with God, 'The Lord possessed Me in the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I was set up from everlasting. . .When He appointed the foundations of the earth: then I was by Him, as one brought up with Him: and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him.' Proverbs 8:22-30."

He was infact apart of God. But when that Word was made flesh he dissolved all Glory that was Him. He gave Himself to be a mere mortal who could die. The Spirit of God protect and guided him. Putting all faith to his Father he died on the cross waiting for the Resurrection by the Father. He was the first among the dead to be raised. Like him shall we also be if we follow his foot steps.

1 John 5:7 What is the record these 3 bear?
written by David144, April 10, 2009
Three BEAR RECORD in Heaven and these three are one, however it does not say "these three are one God" as many imply.

What is the record they bear?

1Jn 5:10 ....THE RECORD that God gave of his Son.

So the record these three bear is God gave his son. What does this imply??

It imply's there is one God the father. So 1 John 5:7 teaches us that God is the father, Christ is God's son.

Lets' look at the record.

The record the father bears is "God[the father] gave his son"
The record the word bears is "God[the father] gave his son"
The record the spirit bears is "God[the father] gave his son"

So these three are one in the record they bear. And it seems to me that record is that God is the father. It doesn't use the title "God" in reference to the father son, and holy spirit once in scriptures. http://www.elijah144.com/answerstotrinitarians.htm

about trinity
written by ping, March 13, 2009
In Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let "us" make man in "our" image, after "our" likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

If we do not believe in Trinity.. what this verse mean? Were there any other persons aside from God during the creation?

me and my wife are one, genesis 2:23. its just some people want an explination how can many people be one. so will someone write a sentance made for the human brain to comprehend how three people are one. this is just so other people can read and understand.
I agree that the church is now starting to be babylon because people can not get past this scripture. and people just can not get over the meaning of the cross.

Two Separate entities, One Spirit which is granted through Faith
written by Jaisen Tyndale-Mahne, January 11, 2009
God and Christ are father and son. Many human fathers and sons follow one another in the family business so to speak. I believe the Holy Spirit is given through Faith to those that believe in Christ and resides within each and every individual as 'the comforter' and also as a mark to change their countenance; both inward and outward.

The Holy Spirit to me is a blessing received when one trusts and places his/her Faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour.

The Triune God and the Trinity are nonsensical.

3 bear record in heaven
written by Abel Gonska, January 06, 2009
hi, yes 1john5:7 says.. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (KJV)

i'm tired of not hearing answers. WLC won't answer the question. instead says it should read like this...bla bla bla. but it does not. like thief on cross comma should go here but it dont.

well we are all members of one body, so this may have some meaning to it.
the father is God (jehovah)
the word is God's voice, the bible (jehovah's voice)
the holy ghost is the spirit of God's son (christ)(the same spirit of God) (you! my friend are the son of God and made in the same image of God.)

john 1:1
in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God.
the word was made flesh.

God's voice was with God and God's voice was God. God's voice was made flesh. his SAME spirit was jesus made flesh to overcome the world. sinless.
we have the same spirit when we are baptized. sinless

Hi Bill
My first post on WLC
There is a great explanation of how the Trinity was ADDED to the Bible in David Guzik's excellent commentaries. Go this part of the page.... 2. A few words on this text, regarding the notes in the margins or footnotes of many Bibles regarding 1 John 5:7-8.

godhead
written by philip dykes, November 07, 2008
i'm a little confused about this subject - i have always believed that god was the word, when uttered, comes into existance, ie: creator - jesus, is the implementation of god's word in the flesh, ie: saviour - and the holy spirit, the energy of god's word, ie: perfecter - ALL three working as ONE . . . i've never known the godhead to be two divine beings only - i'm curious why paul would pray in 1 thessalonians 23, "and i pray god your whole SPIRIT and SOUL and BODY be preserved blameless unto the coming of our lord jesus christ." - there appear to be three faculties spoken of here, not two - therefore, if we are created in gods image would god not also have 3 faculties?

GODHEAD
written by Chika Edoziem, October 20, 2008
Dearest William
I make bold to say that Samuel has answered your comment most appropriately. As you correctly said, GOD created Man in his image (to wit image of righteousness) but because of sin, Man lost this attribute, body and Spirit by which man became a Living Soul for our HEAVENLY FATHER is a LIVING BEING. As the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD is separate and distinct from the physical attribute of GOD, so also is the spirit of Man separate and distinct from the physical attribute of Man.
The issue of the GODHEAD is simple and straightforward as revealed in the HOLY SCRIPTURE. Do please take the brotherly advice of Samuel and prayerfully study the online Bible course. I am assured that the LORD will grant you the grace unto understanding. Also of help will be the article on Spirit&Soul(found in FAQs under state of the dead).May the LORD guide you into HIS everlasting Truth that you may be richly blessed.AMEN.

Rebuttal To William Boggs “Trinity Godhead”
written by afolabi samuel, October 15, 2008
Dear William Boggs,- First and foremost, I will like to invite you to study the online Bible Lesson #04. As a registered member, it is your right and privilege to study those online Bible lessons, and they are most enlightening.

Now back to your reasoning about the “Trinity Godhead”, there is nowhere in the Bible that make known to the honest Bible students the godhead of the holy spirit. In fact, we have the following Scriptures which attributes the godhead to both the Father and Son only;

Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Since you have rejected Zachariah 6:13 (which reveal only 2 Divine Beings and a strong point for the matter),smilies/shocked.gif permit me to share some scriptures that worth pondering;

1Cor 2:11 For what man (a person with physical form) knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man (non-physical aspect of man) which is in him? even so the things of God (a Person with physical form) knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God (non-physical aspect of man).

Man was made in the image of GOD after His own likeness. (See Genesis 1:26) Man possesses a physical form & Spirit. GOD therefore possesses a physical form and Spirit. Every being claiming to be GOD must possess Form & Spirit. Does Holy Spirit fit the criteria? So how can God’s spirit be part of the godhead when it is not a person but rather part of God Himself?

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. (2 divine Beings that makes the Godhead)

1John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. (2 divine Beings that makes the Godhead)

I pray the above will set you free. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

In His love and mine,
Afolabi 1844.
