John 20:19

This verse is used to support Sunday worship:

“Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.” John 20:19.

The disciples cannot be meeting here in honor of Christ’s resurrection because they had not yet learned of it. The doors were shut “for fear of the Jews” and not for worship. When Christ appeared to them He rebuked them for not believing the accounts they heard of His resurrection.

There are only eight texts in the New Testament that mention the first day of the week; none of them imply that it is holy. (Matthew 28:1; Mark 16:1, 2; Mark 16:9; 24:1; 20:1; 20:19; 20:7,8; I Corinthians 1 6:1, 2).
