I was raised in a very religious church full of ritual and I'm sorry to say that you guys are missing something in the translation of speaking in tongues. I will agree that rolling in the floor and barking like dogs and being uncontrolled has its falsehoods but I have been in the presence of God and speaking in tongues in that process and it happens! You do lay on the floor as if dead because the weight of the Holy Spirit is so strong that your flesh can't contain the glory and presence of god.
There are 2 ways to pray one of which you use your mind to produce the words that you want to say and that you want God to hear and that's all well and good but when the Holy Spirit is present and you allow your spiritual language to come forth you no longer control what your saying. We are to pray for one another and sometimes we don't know what to pray for. I could be praying for someone in another country I could be praying for one of you I don't know only God knows. It's called blind faith. I allow the Holy Spirit to move and not put him in a Box! The origin of speaking in tongues at pentecost was a different manifestation than what you witness or receive when when baptized in the Holy Spirit.
There is a purpose for our spiritual language. Let me ask you a question? Do you believe God can do anything? You gave many examples of what scripture says but you left out a story. The story of Hannah..She had been praying for a son and prayed constantly and her husband came in during one of you prayers and he ask her if she was drunk and she said no. She was speaking in tongues to her father and her husband didn't understand it.
Don't question what God is doing! The bible says try the spirits be discerning.

if somebody give you a gift and you recive it, you absollutely you know your gift coz you accept it.

I have noticed that those who haven't experienced the speaking of toungues critizise those who were able to speak in toungues just like the Pharisees accuses Master Jesus on healing on sabbath for Pharisees can't even heal sick person out of their own prayer.

There are only 3 accusation that the Pharisees accuses our Master Jesus that they nailed Him:
1. He was being accused of violating the sabbath (John 5:18)
2. He and His disciples were eating in unclean manner (Mark 7)
3. He was being accused as blasphemy (Mark 26:65)

It is written: "no student is greater than his Teacher", thus every disciples of Christ may experienced the same accusation. Take note also that those Pharisees accuses our Master wears the best outfit in the synagougue and are known to follows the 10 commandments, take note also those who accuses the same in the present times - those who wears coat and tie in church and known to be righteous before men.

Jesus didnt came here to look for fan's club but He came here looking for disciples - those who are willing to follow Him at all cost.

What is the gospel? it is written: "Go unto all nation and preach the good news to all creation - which is forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ our Lord - and those who believe will acompany the following signs in our Master's name:
1. they can drive out demons
2. they can speak in toungues
3. they drink the poison and will not harm them
4. can pick up snakes and can not harm them
5. lay hands on the sick and they went well

it is noted that Pharisees and those who are fun in saying "they keeps the law" dont have these signs while those disciples of Christ (like Stephen, Paul, 12 Apostles, etc) have these signs and in fact they also being accused that their power came from the enemy just like they accused Master Jesus. Take note also that in the present times who among the present groups have the Mark 16 signs - those who were ordinary people; and who among people loves to accuse them as evil and violators of the 10 commandments - isnt it the one with the best outfit goes to church.

Take note also that it is written: "I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you" (Revelation 3)

Please guys.. dont be judgmental on external appearance.. surrender everything go God -including your manly religious wisdom - so that He could fill you up wisdom from Heaven.

i guess you can only explain that provision if you have experienced the speaking in tongue. You can have lots of alibis just like the Pharisees on the past wherein they know all of the prophecy but when our Master Jesus came, they even accuse that His power came from belzebub - for those pharisees can't do our Master Jesus do.

but what does 1 Corinthians 14:2 means?? it says "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries." I just want to hear your views about this line..

Im a member of assembly of god, they are all speaks like i dont understand, and one of pastor said,said you need to learn this speaking i tongue,and he teach me by means of memorizing,but realy i dougtful i dont know what is that..but now its very clear in my mind that speaking tongue never learn from memorizing but it is a gift of God to apostle to epeak to understand some foregners langusge.in time of pentacost..so all my pastor i think are false pastor..

there are 7 gifts from Holy Spirit.
its not easy to find gifts because you can't find it anywhere. only the Holy Spirit who give the gifts, those gifts that are fit to us. if you have receive a gift from Holy Spirit you have to be thankful because not of all His chiildren can receive. if either you receive the gift of tounges, i agree that there is someone who can understand and translate of what your saying. but if not, don't worry its your gift and i believe that God can understand of what your saying. the important is you reveal the truth that you really receive gifts. i believe that whatever your heart speaks to God is that what spoken out from your mouth.

I beleive that speaking in tongues is only from God when others understand it, if no one understands what you are saying its not from God, it could actually be from satan, am i right?

Not all speaking of tongues came from the Holy Spirit as some evil spirit can even imitate that one. But as Paul said, "no can say Jesus is Lord unless he came from the Holy Spirit".

Again, the clear determination is when such tongue will praise God then it is clearly of God.

I know most SDA were not aware of this, that the latter rain started to rain over the children of God. I say this clearly, repent so that you shall have the gift of Spirit from God.

Sunday law mentioned by Ellen G White started has been commenced. Can't you see guys what happened on the streets during Sundays? isnt it the road and streets are clear and there are only few roaming around the streets? Please dont so be hippocrite enough to judge Sunday worshipper that they are worshipping Sundays, some go to church on sundays not to worship but as social gathering as what the early Christians did for they stay on their home during sabbath. Question it to yourself if you too observe sabbath. Guys, maybe you were expecting different Sunday law as what was the Jews expected in the past as they were expecting different Messiah.

I agree with Stan, if we look at the Bible instances of speaking in toungues it was always done for the edification of others in presenting the truth to foreigners. There was a divine purpose. And people UNDERSTOOD what was being said. God is not the author of confusion. God is a God of order!

Thanks. My clarifications:

1. I know you'd agree that the Bible teaches that there is a GENUINE gift of speaking in tongues
I just wanted to point out that we can't be too sure if some people are GENUINELY speaking in tongues. It may be UNKNOWN to us or even to oneself, but it may be real.
I testify from experience. Sometimes when we sing worship songs, with our eyes closed, our hands at times lifted up, praising and singing unto the Lord, sometimes I utter words that are "unknown" to me or others. I just freely express my thanksgiving. Sometimes I say "Yeshua" when I mean Jesus, or I say other words when I mean to say "There is none like You Lord, noone matches You Lord, how great thou art Lord, Your Words are Life Lord" and many other praises - the fruit of our lips. I was acting in faith then and I eagerly desired for the Holy Spirit's gifts.
I maybe really speaking in another language, but at times I can't interpret but I was acting in faith. I used to do it a little loudly but when I read the Bible about being not disruptive, I kept silent to myself and to God.

I can understand some churches don't have this type of worship singing so they can't relate. (I still attend a Sunday church btw, though I now keep the SEVENTH-DAY SABBATH.)

Anyway, going back to tongues, pls. also see this verse. Sometimes I can interpret, sometimes I can't:

"For this reason anyone who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret what he says. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind. If you are praising God with your spirit, how can one who finds himself among those who do not understand say "Amen" to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying? You may be giving thanks well enough, but the other man is not edified." 1 Cor 14:13-17

"...but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express" Rom 8:26


2. THE VERY BIG LIE IS TO SAY THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT IS NOT IN YOU IF YOU'RE NOT ABLE TO SPEAK IN TONGUES. For this lie, many people FAKE the genuine speaking in tongues resulting in confusion and disorder in the church service. Not everyone can even have the gift of speaking in tongues 1 Cor 12:30.

Hi Julius,
When I studied this scripture in 1 Corinthians 14, I thought the same way you did, but that is not what the scriptures teach. First of all Paul never said "unknown", this was the translaters view to let the readers know that the church that was on the receiving end of the prayer and the sermon, that it was unknown unto them. The scriptures never indicated that the speaker was ignorant of the language. In other words, it wasn't a language that was unhuman like, it was an earthly natural learned tongue, NOT THE GIFT OF TONGUES, which is unlearned. Just like in the day of Pentecost. Notice when the gift of tongues were given in the day of Pentecost, those that were in the receiving end of the sermon "understood" the message. In result of that 3000 souls were saved(Acts 2:6-11;41. The message was edifying because they understood it.

Guess what? Do you realize that they didn't need an INTERPRETER? What's the point about that? Well, when God gives you the gift of tongues to use for a region a group of people, AN INTERPRETER ISN'T NEEDED. But in Paul's epistel to the Corithians says, and like you stated, if there are not INTERPRETER then keep silence(1 Cor.14:2. So Paul was addressing a tongue that needs interpretion, but the gift of tongues do not need interpretion so they were DIFFERENT TONGUES, but what they have in common is that they ought to be UNDERSTOOD FOR EDIFICATION. The day of Pentecost the tongues were being controlled by the Spirit(Acts 2:4), while the tongues in the Corinthian church was to be tamed by the speaker(1 Cor.14:5,13, and 2. Do you see the contrast? Every tongue is known.

This unknown gibberish that you are hearing in churches is not in scripture at all. NO WHERE IN SCRIPTURE. When people were given the gift of tongues in Acts they were earthly tongues, that is not what's being taught in these Charismatic Churches, I know because I taught it, and I used it. I was deceived by the way they manipulated the texts. They say "EVERYTIME in the book of Acts when somewhen someone is baptized by the HOLY SPIRIT it is ALWAYS followed by tongues, not true, there were 3 cases when it happened(Acts 2,10, and 19) and 3 cases when that did not occur(Acts 4,8,and 9).

They say that what they are speaking is an unknown angelic tongue according to 1 Corinthians 13:1 when Paul stated, "THOUGH I speak with the tongues of Angels". Well the word "Though" does not mean "although", rather it means "IF". Which change the view of the context. It doesn't say that he does, he was being hyperthetical to make a point of having love or charity as priority. He made more hyperthetical point like this in the same chapter(1 Corinthians 13:1-3). And it was NEVER STATED in scripture that after you are filled with the Spirit you'll be speakin Angelic tongues, the ministry are not to angels, rather they are to earthly men. For the church to be edified, for the work of the ministry(Eph 4:11-13).

A Point to consider:
How can that style of speaking in tongues (as the charismatic churches do) prove to unbelievers that the people that are speaking are filled with the Spirit? The only way they would see it as a miracle is if they understand what is being said. If they don't understand they will not be excited or shocked by this movement. The people were astonished when they heard their tongue being spoken by people that did not speak it before, and they have seen a miracle, and they knew God was involved. It did not require much faith for the unbelievers, but it would for todays false tongues; I needed to take their word for it by faith. That's not what God wanted to convey.
