God has been so merciful that just yesterday in the church came a testimony of how a brother had an accident from calabar going to Abuja, and died his remains was taken to a morgue where he stayed for 2 days, meanwhile his brother who is a member of our church was called and right there he started declaring that there shall be no loss according to, the book of exo 23-25 that God will fulfil our days, then he ordered that his brother should be brought out of the mortuary, just then the dead brother who has been there for two days shoke his body and was rush to the hospital and behold came back to life, now what is that problem or situation that is steering you in the face, confront it and speak life to it . it shall resurrect, there is no close case with God. may His peace remain with you all

Many times I ask myself if God still forgives me despite of all the bad things I've done...a long search for an answer has finally over when I finally know that..... the best thing about LOVE is that...it forgives, it hopes , it believes and it loves again no matter how many times it has being hurt...and that the best thing about GOD is that HE is LOVE....

Hello, this is my first entry, so I thought I would share one of my poems entiled Lord I know you're always there. On my way to work one day, I look up in the sky and I said to myself, Lord, you created everything on this planet, give me the words to write to let people know this is your work. This is what he gave me.
Lord I know you're always there, you say how do I know? well let me share I see the sun come up in the morning, I see the moon come out at night I see the birds fly by like lighting, as they spread their wings in flight I see the dew in the morning after it falls to the earth, I see the rain as it comes down and it pushes the dirt. I see the flowers come to life as they bloom in the spring, with their bright beautiful colors its such a marvelous thing! I see the stars in the sky, in suspended animation, I see the clouds roll by as they take formation. I see dogs and cats as they take their naps, I see bees fly around as they collect their sap. I see people on the street as they scurry about their day, I see children wrestle as they play. I feel the wind on my face, as I watch it blow the leaves on the trees, I watch the ripple of the ocean, as the fish swim in it with ease. I watch the waves rush the shore and then roll back again, I see them toss the boat to and fro from where it was to where its been. Even under the sea is a site to behold, because God created it, truth be told. So if you're going through a trial and you're having doubt, just look around you, he's working it out. Or if you're feeling blue and in despair, dial J-e-s-u-s cause he's always there.

Good evening beloved. What a beautiful Sabbath once again. God has surely blessed this day. As we draw to the close of another Holy Sabbath, I pray that our interaction with the Father has prepared us for the challenge ahead. Let us go out into the world and spread the good news. We have not ime to waste.
A Prayer for You Today I said a prayer for you That God may bless and protect you I prayed that he may guide your feet And normalize your soft heartbeat I pray that God may send the words That may come forth form out your mouth That every pain within your being God may remove such things unclean Today I said a prayer for you A prayer that you may not feel blue But happiness alone may be What I may see come forth form thee And everything within this prayer I pray for you dearest dear May come from he who knows what’s best A gift form God’s own treasure chest When You see me When you see me here, With sword in hand and eyes intent It’s just because Humbled and weak My heart is weak The truth I seek by God I’m sent When you see me here Resolved and sure seem insecure The spirit works I come for hope For truth I grope End of my rope God is my cure When you see me here A soldier lost, searching, searching! It’s once again, I’ve lived in vain Can’t bear the pain Broken and stained For Him I’m burning I am the child he spoke about Who turned away and turned about And then returned to walk the path That saved my soul form Heaven’s wrath So when you see me sitting there Or standing tall amongst you here Oh worry not and have no fear For God’s great love has brought me back He said to me, “My child beware!” Turn away form sin and death and Satan’s lair And then I said, “You God I fear." written by priscilla mangisi, October 24, 2009

As christians the way we behave should show christ in our interaction, in our conversation, a christian who does not have a testimony should ask himself questions and be able to advice himself. Let us therefore love one another cos it is the greatest gift from above. i love you all

I have had a trying year. I search each day and find the same thing each time..... The answer is in the Word of God. I listen patiently for His voice to comfort, console, guide. I pray dear Lord enter my soul inside. I raise my hands to the sky and say, " Thank you Lord for this day, your blessings are felt as I do things not by my will but by Your way, Amen."

Good evening again my brothers and sisters,
I once again bring to you those words God has put into my thoughts. I hope that you continue to enjoy but more imnportantly, use the words to further draw closer to God as we prepare for His sec ond coming: The Second Coming Whose second coming should excite us more? The Christ who saved us or that beast impure? I think that we’re clear That there’s only way To enter God’s glory On Judgment Day And that’s by accepting That Jesus Christ For you and for me Paid a heavy price I cannot consider That beast impure Who’s coming from the Abyss Somewhere below But Jesus my Lord Who comes from up high I praise and I appreciate you And in you I rely It’s you my Lord In whom I’m rejoicing As I patiently await Your second coming Pray As the end draws near And Satan roams more We must draw closer To God's open door Get rid of sin And matters unclean And join in that effort To destroy Satan's scheme God remains unchanging And showers His grace But brethren let's hurry And hasten our pace For soon come that moment When the Spirit takes leave And those who dare tarry Will not bring in the sheaves But one sure means Of keeping in line Is to stay in touch By not wasting time To be right with God On Judgment Day There's one sure thing We must do today PRAY! written by asenath makena, October 17, 2009

As you were raised with all hard works and prayer Instilling contentment to your soul You only have to trust and be faithful You energize me behind my tiredness I can afford to grin and bear behind difficulties You are the reason why I have to go out rain or shine As I can not stop dreaming even for a short while Walking by our own pace with courage You witness how I carry the hardship May it serves you as good example As you take your journey in the future Reminiscing our beautiful memories Bonded in time of our togetherness Where things were not all soft and smooth But the happiness we feel is what that counts most Embrace the completeness of a mother Watching you strong and braver Be thankful, cheerful and be alive I consider you treasure in my life more poems to read at http://helensarita.blogspot.com/ just type the link please..thanks a lot...God bless! written by dafe peace, October 17, 2009

Life is not a midnight snore of our deep sleeping
It is sometimes gasping an air of our breathing Life is not as smooth and arranged as we want it to across It is sometimes garbled in order to serve its purpose Life has to undergo a lot of trials, pains and sacrifices To give worth meaning the sweetness of everyone's success Life is the hardest step that teaches us to dance And yet it brings us as graceful as we become Life is meaningless if it is as shallow as the river runs Yet it is meaningful if it is as deep and silent as the ocean Life is a flow of tears in a perpetual stumble and fall To give us enough lessons to learn and make it more colorful Life has a worth to live if we are brave to face its challenge And it is good if we accept its wonderful design God has given Life is not measured in the number of breaths we take Rather in the number of times life left us breathless READ MORE at http://helensarita.blogspot.com/ written by florence aragba-akpore, October 14, 2009

I sat within the winding pews Amongst my friends and many fews Hearing the word and songs of praise Hoping to share god’s love and grace The world outside was left to be Because it could not set me free Humbly upon my bended knee Oh Lord, I give my heart to thee Somewhere out there where others fall You thought of me and made a call But where I sat in harmony With God you could not speak to me I was a prodigal son returned Hoping to be again transformed Removed from all your world of woes Serving within my Father’s house My Morning Prayer Oh blessed God of might and power I bend my knees and pray this hour That all things may go well this day This is my prayer great God I pray I thank thee Father for giving me life For energy and the will to survive For skies so blue from only you And all that make each day so new I thank you Lord for the love I feel For the blood of Jesus which is my shield For knowledge I get from you each day And wisdom so that I don’t stray I thank thee Lord for the patience you give For the motivation I have to live For the many, many times you’ve carried me And your Holy Spirit which is guiding me And now I ask for blessings more For the chance to enter Heaven’s door I ask thee Lord my heart to keep safe That this life you gave me goes not to waste I ask you bless my family so dear That they may experience your love and care That they may know your gracefulness And grow in love and faithfulness Thank you dear Lord for hearing me And from Satan protecting me Please Jesus, God, Almighty One of Power Keep me safe today and every hour written by Helen Sarita, October 10, 2009
Peaceful silence on the air
I savored while meditating Heartily talking You in depth You listen my soul who is imperfect I refresh myself in faith and I worship In the shaking situation I face, I ask Your help Heavy trial came my way unexpectedly It needs a lot of my courage and humility As things drifted my mind at night I tried to examine myself and give insight I was feeling empty and helpless But I need to move on out of nothingness I have to fight to win this battle For the welfare of everyone and all I know that it will just pass over In my every prayer You give an answer You are giving me comfort and care You are alive, You are just there As I am solving things one at a time You give me hope and sunshine You are a helping and caring Father With so much unconditional love to share And behind the visit of this horrifying crisis I thank you for painting my face a smile if you wanna read more poems, visit here: http://helensarita.blogspot.com/ written by Helen Sarita, October 09, 2009

I live alone in a wasteland
No trees, no plants, but burning sand From here to heaven I lift my hand Praise God! For thus he had planned. My eyes are blood-shot red with sorrow Knowing not what waits tomorrow. Though I hear the strong bulls’ bellows Help me cross the sea so shallow. I’m out of water, food and grain Look to you for manna rain Your words my only food and drink Snatch me from the Death-bank brink. God led Israelites to Canaan Through the desert’s burning sun Hot and weary, and no fun Yet by faith they bore the run. “In the desert I found you Through my blood I ransomed you Come to me and be at ease Your Savior bids your pain to cease.” O my Savior! Thank you for Saving me from troubles sore Saving me from soul’s destruction Help me clear my road’s obstruction. Thank you for your whole salvation Yet I have this one petition Do not cast me from your presence Accept my humble-spirit incense. written by Norman Rodriguez, October 03, 2009

Go walk the streets in Jesus’ name Seek not rewards or worldly fame Ask not revenge on those who seek To drive you off or make you weak But trust in God in every way And He will open up your way Call on His name and you will see That God alone can make you free It is for this you were conceived To live such that all would believe A shining light of righteousness A child of God forever blessed Endorsed by God to carry out His love and truth from out thy mouth To teach the world to win the prize Dear Lord we must evangelize Visit the sick, needy, and weak Exemplify Jesus who’s meek But go you must to lead the blind And from within God’s love unwind written by Norman Rodriguez, October 03, 2009 Oh blessed I am and blessed she be Father you’ve brought her unto thee Heaven’s angels now sing with glee Because her heart unwinds to thee You called her and she quickly came To bless her is your only aim She left a life of earthly fame To walk with you in Jesus’ name She could not disobey your call Because you are master of all She knows Satan is bound to fall Now in her life you’re king of all Oh master I’m in harmony Because you brought her unto thee Thank you Father this gift to me You called her and she came to thee written by galal doss, October 02, 2009

Dear Brothers and sisters,
Let us share an experience EXPERIENCE I carry an aura of drowsiness around me, every time I feel having realized something Having something within my grasp The very next moment I find myself being washed away By the turbulent sea of desires, Into the ever widening gyre of this manifestation I get up again ! This time mustering up all my passions To unravel the shrouded mysteries of life The whirlpool of desires again haunts my each step Keeping its jaws wide open, to engulf me at once, at my slightest totter, I move ,move & keep moving To a destination, which I know not, And after I traverse a little more distance Than what I had traversed the previous time I again fall a pray In the aura of drowsiness Into the same old steamy cesspool of desires, An incessant moment follows after each such experience of heavenly bliss which this world can never provide For it is something which can’t be exchanged either Just an experience !! so soothing !! Here I go again !! Hey there ! Any one willing to join me !! written by S.A.Angami Angami, September 27, 2009

Make me thy Tool Father of peace father of life Father forgive my sinful life Father of love, father of grace Father please keep me on the pace Father turn not from me today Because I’ve gone my sinful way But bring me back into the fold To where you have my crown of gold Father of all and king of time You came and said, “My child be mine” I turned away and strayed too far Was battered, scarred by wordly war Now here I am wishing to be Returned and Reconciled to thee Hoping to touch your garment’s hem So that I could see Bethlehem Father of mine father of life Take me thy child from all this strife Show me the way that I should go To make thy power overflow Make me thy tool to bring to thee Those who from sin wish to be free An everlasting tool for you Strong, tough, and multipurpose too written by Norman Rodriguez, September 26, 2009

I had composed this poem and would like to share your comments. AN ENDEARING SWAP Stop, you can’t do it The mind calls vehemently Stay quiet, drink all abuses Stay in Him The worldly shackles have this final lock Into the journey inwards You get laughed at; mocked By many surrounding you But some come for alms God sent messiahs Who will surely come To heighten your penance Give strength to your newly found out way To give zest to your austerities To fill your inner silence Some more divine grace will follow Inner dives are now more smooth Deeper & deeper they grow More deep, more deep & still deeper! What a solace ! Utter silence!! written by donald guevarra, September 23, 2009
good day everyone in this forum.
i would like to address my plea to the wlc team...im having a hard time trying to get a copy of those books featured on the last clip of the video "alpha and omega apostasy" in SDA Church...would it be possible to transfer at least one of them (books) into a pdf file? so anyone who is interested in the early fundamental teaching of the Seventh Day Adventist can download it. i wish to download that clip too! best regards, freeetnique written by Haroon Arif, September 20, 2009
In conclusion, look at these passages:
Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. Romans 10: 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." John 6: 37 "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. Have you called on the name of the Lord Jesus and received the free gift of salvation? written by Haroon Arif, September 20, 2009
Abraham did many righteous acts, but the Bible states that he could not boast before God. It wasn’t his acts that justified him, it was his faith. He believed God and he was credited with God’s righteousness. We also must believe God. God said that justification can only be found in Christ. All our works are dead, but we are made alive by what Jesus has already done for us by His life, death and resurrection. Salvation can never be obtained by our efforts because works and deeds of the law can never justify us. We are justified in Christ alone. If we don’t believe and try to make our own way, we remain dead in our sins; but if we believe God, we are credited with His righteousness.
Matthew 7: 13 " Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Only one road leads to salvation and there is only one door – Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that the greatest punishment is due to those who count the blood of His covenant as a common thing (Hebrews 10:29). Do you hear the world declaring that Jesus is a common thing and no better than all other religions? The truth is that God was manifested in the flesh to pay the penalty of your sin. What religion can equal this? What person can disregard the act of love their own Creator paid on their behalf? written by Haroon Arif, September 20, 2009
Only Jesus Christ paid the penalty of our sin, therefore salvation can only come through Jesus Christ. Look at John 14:
6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. This one statement sets Christianity and the Bible apart from all other religions. Either the Bible is right and there is no other way to salvation, or the Bible is wrong and all other religions are right. If all roads lead to God then the Bible is a false book and does not have any reliability. Anyone claiming to be a Christian and says that other religions are equally valid is contradicting the Bible, declaring that Jesus is a liar, and is undermining his own faith. Jesus’ statement about being the only way does not stand alone, look at Acts 4: 10 "let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 "This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.' 12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." It is the Bible, not Christians that excludes all other paths. Jesus said that He is the door and if anyone attempts to get on the path by any other way, that person is a thief or a robber (John 10:1-9). The Bible also spells out that thieves and robbers will not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. The only way is through Jesus Christ. If there was another way to salvation, it would not have been necessary for God to be manifested in the flesh and to die in your place. Why should God humble Himself for you if any way will do? It is because of our guilt that Jesus Christ came, was condemned and had our sins laid to His account. Look at Isaiah 53: 4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. The message of the gospel is that God so loved the world that He gave His own Son. The way of salvation is that our iniquities were laid on Him. We were dead in our sins but have been made alive together with Him (Colossians 2:13-14) and He has healed our broken spirit by His sacrifice on the cross. 2 Corinthians 5 explains: 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. He became our sin by being credited with our debt and we become His righteousness by being credited with His righteousness. We don’t become righteous by our actions, we become the righteousness of God. We are given a foreign righteousness because God, in His mercy, credits us with His own righteousness. Remember that our righteous acts are filthy in God’s site, but His righteousness credited on our behalf makes us acceptable. Now look at Romans 4: 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." 4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. 5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, written by Haroon Arif, September 20, 2009
I have also heard the question, “Why doesn’t God just forgive everyone’s sin and take us all to heaven?” Sounds reasonable, right? If we think this question through, even the critics against God would not agree with this approach to justice. Why doesn’t our legal system just do away with all violations of the law and set everyone free? Would it be just for a murderer to be forgiven and walk away contrary to the law? When the law is not upheld, we get angry at the perversion of justice, yet we then want God to pervert His own justice.
The standard of measure for perfection is God’s own nature and everyone falls short of His glory. God issued the law and offered a blessing to those who obey and the curse against those who disobey. Unfortunately we have all disobeyed at various times in our life. When it is inconvenient, we lie. We call it a white lie but it is still a lie. We may call stealing ‘petty theft’ but it is still stealing. Jesus said that if you violate one command, you have broken them all. Why is this? Because once we violate God’s law, we are then in opposition – or rebellion – against God’s nature. Jesus also brought reality to our personal struggles with sin. He said that it is taught that you should not commit adultery, but anyone who has lusted has already committed adultery in his or her heart. The greedy has committed theft; the one who hates is guilty of murder; the one who covets is an idolater. The Bible teaches that all sin comes from the heart and God examines each one’s heart. The fear of consequences may restrain our outward behavior!, but the law can never repair the sin in our heart. To make matters worse, the Bible tells us that all sin will be avenged by God. Sin is a violation of the law and the wages of sin is death. Forgiveness is not enough, the debt is still owed. If I fall behind on my bills, the bank may empathize with me, but I still have that debt. The debt cannot be forgiven, it must be paid by me or someone else. Even bankruptcy does not wipe out the debt, it just transfers it to others. Someone will eventually pay. This is why Buddha cannot forgive sins, nor can Mohammad, Gandhi, Dali Lama, the Pope or any other religious leader. A religious leader can’t forgive sins because he too is in debt to sin. You can pay the penalty of your sins by entering into God’s judgment, but you can never satisfy the debt. Without anything to pay, how can we ever get out of debt? The Bible says that all our righteous acts are filthy rags in God’s site (Isaiah 64:6). What can I offer God that He does not already possess? If my best falls so short that it is filthy in God’s site, how can I pay down my debt? I can’t. Only Jesus Christ can pay the penalty of my sin. Look at these two passages: 1 Timothy 3: 16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory. 1 John 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. 4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. Remember, only God can forgive sins because all sin is against God alone. Also keep in mind that God forgives you for your sins, but God’s forgiveness does not nullify sin. In spite of the forgiveness, the debt must be paid. Instead of requiring the penalty at our hands, Romans 5 says: 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. Only Jesus can forgive sins because only Jesus Christ was God manifested in the flesh. While we were dead in our transgressions and the corruption of our flesh, Jesus took the written account of our debt that was against us and took it out of the way by paying for it and nailing it to the cross (Colossians 2:13-14). The Bible tells us that Jesus bore the penalty of our sins in His own body. God poured out His wrath against our sin on Jesus Christ on the cross. The judgment for your sin was laid to the account of Jesus Christ and nailed to His cross. You are forgiven because the debt has been paid. After bearing the burden of your sin, Jesus cried out, “It is finished” and died (John 19:30). The Greek word translated into ‘finished’ is ‘tetelestia’ is an accounting term which means ‘paid in full’. Jesus declared from the cross, “The debt is paid in full!” written by Haroon Arif, September 20, 2009
Other laws were related to sanitation. If someone touched a dead body, they were unclean and had to cleanse themselves and could not eat until they washed their whole body. Today we understand why washing was import!!ant, but the ancient world that had no concept of microbes could not understand anything but the law. The same is true for declaring certain animals clean and others unclean. It is because that man was not able to understand the reasons that God issued the commands. God commanded that man could not drink the blood of any living thing because blood-borne diseases are a very real threat.
Curbing behavior! and protecting the culture also creates a need for the law. God set a standard of ethics for his people in business, marriage and everyday life. It is ironic that the world calls the handful of laws in the Bible burdensome, yet we have thousands of laws in our culture which attempts to restrain our citizens from harming themselves or violating the rights of others. The most import!!ant aspect of the law is to imitate the character of our Creator. Each man, woman and child has been created in the image of God. We were all created for a purpose and the Bible tells us that purpose – to know and love God and to reflect His glory. Romans 3:23 tells us that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Romans 3 also says: 10 As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. 12 They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one." Not one single person has fulfilled their calling. Not a single person truly seeks after God, none of us practice righteousness in and of ourselves. What we call good and profitable is not what God calls good. Anything that does not have eternal significance is not profitable. What good does it do to build something that will soon decay or even be destroyed? What is good only comes from God. When a person does a charitable deed, it is still self-seeking. We often hear people say that helping someone in need makes them feel good. There is nothing wrong with this, but the true reason behind our so-called goodness are self serving motives. It is easy to love your neighbor when there is no personal cost, but how many are willing to love those who hate them and will give to those who will not acknowledge appreciation? Our primary reason for existence is to seek God and to love Him, however, our primary motivation for our lives is to seek our pleasure and live a self-centered life. All have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory and all are in need of forgiveness. God is holy and the Bible calls Him a consuming fire. Sin is a direct challenge against God’s law which is based on God’s own character and nature. Anything that is against God’s nature will not stand in God’s presence. Therefore, our sin must be handled if we are to have our place with God. written by Haroon Arif, September 20, 2009
There is not a religious leader on earth that can forgive sins. Only God can forgive because we only sin against Him. Look at Psalm 51:
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. 4 Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight -- That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge. This is the prayer of King David who was mourning over his own sin when he committed adultery with Bathsheba and had Uriah killed to cover his transgressions. God sent Nathan the prophet to confront David and he repented. Even though David committed the transgression against Uriah, the Bible makes it clear that the sin was against God alone. The reason is that all sin is based on God’s law. When we break God’s law, we are challenging God’s authority. This brings up the interesting question – why are certain actions considered to be sin at all? When we say certain behavior!s are sinful, those practicing these behavior!s inevitably ask, “Who are you to say this is wrong?” Of course, we are upholding what God has said but I believe it is also good for us to have a reasonable understanding as to why God said certain things are wrong. If we look back at the ancient Israelites, we see many laws that don’t seem to make sense today. However, if we look closely we can see a clear purpose behind every law. In Leviticus God delivered many laws to govern the lives of Israel. Many of these laws were related to worship and the penalty was very harsh for violating these laws. Keep in mind that Israel was the light that God chose to reveal salvation to the world. Many of the worship laws were direct prophecies to Christ and the laws that did not seem to have a purpose at the time were clear teaching tools for what was revealed in Christ and in His crucifixion. The laws were necessary so that the revelation of Jesus Christ would be received and understood. It should be a serious offense to nullify the work that God was doing to reconcile the world to Himself. Other laws were related to sanitation. If someone touched a dead body, they were unclean and had to cleanse themselves and could not eat until they washed their whole body. Today we understand why washing was import!!ant, but the ancient world that had no concept of microbes could not understand anything but the law. In our post modern culture, the question frequently arises, “Why do you say Jesus is the only way?” or “Who are you to say Jesus is the only way?” We can expect the culture to ask questions like this, but in the last few years the Christian church itself has begun to ask these same questions. I watched an interview on MSNBC with a very prominent ex-politician who has always claimed to be a Christian. In an answer to a question he stated that all religions served the same God in different ways.
We have all heard similar statements – all roads lead to the same God and all religions worship the same God in different ways. One illustration was made popular a few years ago by a Buddhist parable. Men who were blind from birth were gathered together in a room with an elephant. Each man was led to a different part of the elephant – one felt the head, one the legs, tail, ears, and trunk. Afterward they were asked, “What is an elephant”? They began arguing when one claimed it was a plowshare, or a tree trunk, a brush, etc. The conclusion is that they all saw one part of the greater whole. In other words, we who argue about truth are arguing about the same god that has been revealed to us in different ways. It is a very clever parable but holds one truth that I’m sure the author did not intend. Each one of these men was blind and each one was wrong. Until God reveals Himself to us, we all grope around in the darkness vainly searching for some semblance of truth. However, as long as we are blind, we remain in the darkness and what seems true is complete error. In Christianity, God reveals Himself to us and we receive His truth and experience a relationship with our Creator. In world religions, man seeks his own truth and creates his own god. He may call the thing he worships a god, but that does not make it God. As we will see shortly, the Bible gives concrete pointes of reference that place it squarely in contradiction with all world religions. Two contradicting points cannot be one in truth. Let’s take a moment to look at three points which show scripturally that Jesus Christ alone can offer salvation. written by Haroon Arif, September 19, 2009
"Don't hang out with angry people; don't keep company with hotheads. Bad temper is contagious - don't get infected" (Proverbs 22:24-25).
Is anger contagious? Yes. Can you be infected by somebody else's anger? Certainly. Ever been in a situation where they get loud and you do too? What's happening? There's a transfer of energy. It's contagious. If you are serious about changing an imbedded, habitual lifestyle of inappropriate anger management, then you need to start hanging out with other people who know how to manage their anger. That's one of the benefits of a church. That's why I believe in joining a church family and getting involved in a small group. You pick up positive values. The methods we use to express our anger are learned. Since they're learned, they can be unlearned. Parents, every time I blow up and lose my cool, I'm modeling inappropriate anger to my kids. They're learning and you're teaching. James Dobson says, "Successful marriages are not those marriages where anger or conflicts do not exist. But rather, successful marriages are where they've learned to manage their anger. When anger is managed, it produces great marriages." I'd like to add this: When anger is managed, it also produces great friendships and churches and businesses. It produces great leaders because it channels the emotional energy of anger into a focus that will potentially produce tremendous good. Let's pray: "Dear God, I resolve to manage my anger. Today, with your help, I'm going to take control of my temper. I've fallen in the past, but today I make a new commitment, a new start. Help me to realize the cost of my anger: that it causes arguments and mistakes, that it causes me to do foolish things and get into all kinds of trouble. When I lose my temper, I always lose. "Father, help me to reflect before reacting, to have wisdom and ask myself, 'Why am I angry? What do I really want? How can I get it?' Help me to see the causes beneath my anger. Help me to release my anger appropriately, no longer expressing it through violence, shouting, pouting or just being quiet and holding it in as a grudge. Help me to admit it, confess it to you, myself, and others. "Help me to re-pattern my mind, to spend daily time with you in your word, have a daily quiet time where my mind can be slowly transformed to think the thoughts that are correct and bring the behavior that I want. Help me to relate to people who have learned or are learning to manage their anger. I pray this is Jesus' name, knowing you are listening and answering. Amen." written by Haroon Arif, September 19, 2009
"Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind" (Romans 12:2).
The way we act is determined by the way we feel. The way we feel is determined by the way we think. If we want to change the way we act, we've got to change the way we think. If we want to change a habitual pattern of improper anger management—pouting, blowing up, criticizing, etc.—then we need to have some mental reconditioning. Gary Smalley suggests you begin asking yourself questions like, "Do I enjoy getting angry?" "Does it produce the intended results when I get angry?" "Could I get the same results in a more effective way?" "How would I be different?" Smalley suggests you write it down and read it aloud to yourself once a week for six months, that's 26 times. Take the time to read it in the presence of another person. That may seem like a lot of work, but how serious are you about changing this habit in your life? How serious are you about getting control of your anger? I'd suggest using Bible verses in your letter, so that as God's Word fills your thoughts, you're transformed by the renewing of your mind. It's going to change you. The truth is, angry people are insecure people. The more insecure I am, the more things tick me off. The more insecure I am, the more upset I get and the more irritable I am. But here's the thing: when you understand how much God loves you and you understand your security in Christ, when you understand how much you matter to God, then you are less likely to be irritable. Homework: Read Ephesians 1 and Romans 8. They are anti-anger biblical passages because they teach us how deeply God loves us, and that we are secure in him. written by Haroon Arif, September 19, 2009
"If you become angry, do not let your anger lead you into sin" (Ephesians 4:26).
There are helpful ways and harmful ways to release your anger. For instance, sometimes we'd rather remain angry than admit to our anger. Yet, the Bible says that to be angry and not admit that you are angry is lying. And that's a sin. Keep in mind: anger is not necessarily wrong. It only becomes wrong if we release it in a way that is inappropriate or destructive. My experience as a pastor is that most of us learned to express our anger when we were two or three years old, and we're still expressing our anger in the same way as adults. Needless to say, this simply doesn't work. Most people express their anger in such a way that they end up farther away from their goal than they were before they became angry. Anger, expressed inappropriately, has the opposite effect of producing the intended results. Blowing up at people never produces lasting change; it only produces more anger and alienation. We know that but we still do it. It doesn't produce lasting change. Something to keep in mind is that anger is never really the root problem. It is usually a symptom that reveals one of three things is happening: hurt, fear, frustration. These are the three things that make us angry, and this is why we should always stop and cool down. It allows us to think: - Am I hurt? - Am I afraid? Perhaps feeling threatened, or that I'm going to lose something of value? - Or, am I frustrated? Understanding the source of your anger will help you respond in an appropriate manner, so that your anger does not "lead you into sin" (Ephesians 4:26). written by Haroon Arif, September 19, 2009
Resolve to Manage Your Anger
"Love . . . is not easily angered" (1 Corinthians 13:5). The Bible says, "Love is not easily angered." It doesn't say love never gets angry at all. In fact, sometimes the loving thing to do is to get angry. Jesus became angry in the Temple when he saw his Father's house being run like a marketplace. At the same time, we can love someone and still get angry at that person. Sometimes the anger may be 'righteous' and sometimes it may be 'selfish,' but the people we love the most are the ones most likely to make us angry. My point is this: God placed the capacity to get angry into your biological makeup. Being angry is not a sin; it can become a sin if we allow it to push us into destructive behavior, but the emotion itself is not a sin. The Bible says even God gets angry. You can't avoid anger, but you can learn how to control it. You can resolve to manage it, so it becomes an asset, rather than a liability. This means you quit making excuses and justifying your anger: "That's just me. I just blow up. I can't control it." Anger can be controlled. Have you ever been in a fight with someone and things are getting pretty loud, but then the telephone rings? Notice how quickly you can manage your anger! You've got a lot more control over your anger than you think you do. Resolve to manage it, then confess, "I can control my anger with God's help." Anger: Reflect Before You Respond "A rebel shouts in anger; a wise man holds his temper in and cools it" (Proverbs 29:11). When you're angry, don't respond impulsively. Delay is a great tool in controlling anger. I'm not saying delay indefinitely, or even beyond a day; the Bible says don't go to sleep when you're angry. I'm talking about delaying it for five minutes. When you start to get ticked off, you take 'time out' for a few minutes. Give yourself some time to stop, reflect and think it through. If you don't stop and think, you are likely to do the wrong thing. You need to reflect before you respond. When we get angry, we need to get in the habit of stepping back, waiting a few minutes, and looking at the situation from God's point of view. Notice the Bible says a wise man lets his anger cool down (Proverbs 29:11). So 'cool it' is a Biblical term! A modern translation might be: "The wise man waits and chills out." Thomas Jefferson, the author of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, said, "When angry, count to ten before you speak. If very angry, count to one hundred." While you're cooling down, ask yourself three questions to help you understand why you are angry: - Why am I angry? - What do I really want? - How can I get it? Understanding the reason for your anger will give you greater patience and, perhaps, even the ability to overlook an offense (Proverbs 19:11). written by Haroon Arif, September 19, 2009
God Says You Are Forgiven
“I am the God who forgives your sins, and I do this because of who I am. I will not hold your sins against you” (Isaiah 43:25). Some of us, even though we’re believers, think whenever we’re having problems that God’s getting even with us; that God’s just trying to get back at us. It’s like the guy who was driving up to a mountain lake and on the way up it starts snowing, so he gets out to put chains on his tires. While he’s doing this, another car comes along and slams into his car. And he watches in horror as his car goes over a cliff. He continues up the mountain on foot, in the snow and sleet, and he’s getting sick from the cold. Then, as he rounds a corner, he sees that his cabin has burned down. He starts hitting his head against the wall, and asks, “Why me, God.” The heavens part and a voice says, “Because some people just tick me off.” Some of you really feel that is the way God feels about you. You think that whenever you’ve got a problem, God is ticked off. But the Bible says, “I am the God who forgives your sins, and I do this because of who I am. I will not hold your sins against you” (Isaiah 43:25). God doesn’t hold a grudge. If you have received Jesus as your Savior, then there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. He doesn't rub it in, he rubs it out. He doesn’t rehearse it, he releases it. written by Haroon Arif, September 19, 2009
God Says You Are Capable
You have a right now to go directly to God; you have direct access. You don’t have to pray through anybody else. You don’t have to confess through anybody else. You don’t have to go through anyone else to have fellowship with God. The Bible teaches that you have a direct line now. In addition, God says you have been gifted for ministry to serve other people. Every Christian is a minister. That doesn’t mean every Christian is a pastor, rather minister. Anytime you’re using your talents and gifts to help others you’re ministering. Notice the Bible verse above says, “He saved us for his holy work.” You are saved to serve. Why did God save you? So you could serve him. You may be thinking, “How do I know what my ministry is?” You look at your talents, your gifts, and your abilities. You look at how God shaped you. God wants you to use those talents and gifts to help other people. Every time you do that, that’s called ministry: nothing fancy, scary, or supernatural about it. It’s just helping others. Can you minister in a sales office? Yes, you can. Can you minister as an accountant? Yes, you can. Can you minister driving a truck? Sure! Anytime you’re helping other people in his name, you’re ministering. In fact, God says you’re necessary in the church. You’re a necessary part of this family. Look at it this way, if I don’t use my talents—you get cheated. If you don’t use your talents—I get cheated. Everybody else in the congregation gets cheated. We’re all important; we’re all necessary to do our part as we fit together. Write comment
