There are moments in the history of a ministry when everything changes. Sometimes the change comes through a new archaeological discovery, a newly understood passage of Scripture, or a question that refuses to go away. For the World’s Last Chance (WLC) ministry, one of the most profound turning points came in the middle of 2009, when we received a copy of The Great Calendar Controversy: Time through Time, written by Elaine Vornholt and her daughter, Laura Lee Vornholt-Jones.
Looking back, it is difficult to overstate the effect that book had upon us. It did not merely introduce us to another interpretation of the Sabbath. It confronted us with a question that reached to the foundation of our worship: Were we actually observing the seventh-day Sabbath commanded by Father Yahuwah?
Until that time, we had been devout Saturday Sabbath keepers. We had sincerely believed that Saturday was the seventh day of the biblical week and that by resting on Saturday we were honoring the Fourth Commandment. We had not approached the matter casually. We had trusted the religious tradition in which we had been instructed and had assumed that the identification of Saturday with the biblical seventh day was established beyond reasonable question.
Then came the book.
The authors, Elaine Vornholt and Laura Lee Vornholt-Jones, presented a sustained case that the biblical method of determining sacred days was connected to the movements of the sun and moon rather than to the uninterrupted weekly cycle of the modern Gregorian calendar. Their book was published by 4 Angels’ Publications and is listed as a 133-page work.
For us, the implications were staggering.
The Shock of Discovering That We Might Have Been Wrong
This was not a minor matter. If the Sabbath is truly holy because Yahuwah Himself sanctified it, then determining which day is the Sabbath cannot safely be delegated to tradition.
|
There is a particular kind of pain that accompanies the discovery that something we have sincerely believed for many years might not be true.
It is one thing to discover that we misunderstood an obscure theological detail. It is something entirely different to discover that a practice of worship—something we believed we were doing in obedience to Yahuwah—might have been based on a human calendar rather than on the Creator’s own system for measuring sacred time.
The initial reaction was not celebration.
It was shock.
We had spent years believing that Saturday was Yahuwah’s Sabbath. We had trusted religious authorities who taught us that the weekly cycle had continued uninterrupted from creation to our own day. We had accepted the assumption that the seventh day of the modern week was identical to the seventh day established in Genesis.
The book forced us to stop and examine that assumption.
This was not a minor matter. If the Sabbath is truly holy because Yahuwah Himself sanctified it, then determining which day is the Sabbath cannot safely be delegated to tradition.
Genesis says that Yahuwah finished His work on the seventh day, rested on that day, blessed it, and sanctified it (Genesis 2:1–3). The Fourth Commandment says, “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8). The commandment does not instruct us to follow a later civil calendar. It directs our attention to the Creator.
That realization changed the question.
Instead of asking, “Which day does my church tell me is Sabbath?” we began asking, “How did Yahuwah Himself establish His calendar, and how does Scripture tell us to identify His seventh day?”
We Had to Investigate Both Sides
The ministry did not change its position simply because a book presented an unfamiliar idea.
The discovery triggered an investigation.
The question was not, “What do we want to believe?” The question was, “What does Scripture actually teach?”
|
For several months, we examined the evidence from both sides. We studied biblical passages on the Sabbath, the week, the moon, the appointed times, the creation account, the Hebrew calendar, and the historical development of calendars. We examined the arguments presented by lunar-Sabbath advocates, but we also considered the objections raised against them.
This was important because truth does not need protection from honest investigation.
If the traditional Saturday position was correct, then careful investigation should establish it. If the Luni-Solar position was correct, then careful investigation should establish that instead.
The question was not, “What do we want to believe?”
The question was, “What does Scripture actually teach?”
As the investigation continued, the issue became increasingly compelling to us.
Genesis 1 presents the heavenly lights as being appointed “for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years” (Genesis 1:14). Psalm 104:19 says that Yahuwah appointed the moon “for seasons.” The Hebrew word translated “seasons” in these passages is connected with appointed times. Leviticus 23 repeatedly identifies Yahuwah’s appointed times and sacred convocations in relation to dates within the biblical calendar.
We therefore began asking why the weekly Sabbath should be detached from the same heavenly system that Scripture repeatedly presents as Yahuwah’s timekeeping mechanism.
The more we studied, the more significant the connection between the sun, moon, and biblical time became.
From Saturday to the Luni-Solar Sabbath
Eventually, after months of intensive study, the ministry became convinced that the Sabbath should be determined according to the biblical Luni-Solar calendar.
This was not merely an adjustment to our schedule.
It was a fundamental change in how we understood sacred time.
The principle was simple enough to state: Yahuwah established the heavenly bodies as markers for time, and the biblical calendar is structured around the luni-solar relationship. The new moon establishes the beginning of the biblical month, and the weekly Sabbaths occur on the seventh-day pattern within that divinely ordered month.
This meant that the Sabbath does not necessarily correspond permanently to Saturday on the Gregorian calendar.
That conclusion was deeply unsettling because it meant that a person could sincerely rest every Saturday and yet still be observing a day established by the modern civil calendar rather than the day designated by Yahuwah’s own calendar.
This was precisely the issue that had first shocked us.
And once convinced, we faced another decision.
Would we keep this discovery to ourselves?
Or would we publicly proclaim what we had become convinced was truth?
We chose the latter.
WLC Decided to Speak Publicly
The ministry did not merely adopt the Luni-Solar calendar privately. We decided that if we believed we had discovered an important biblical truth, we had a responsibility to make the evidence available to others.
That decision led to the publication of numerous articles, studies, videos, charts, and other materials explaining the biblical calendar and defending the Luni-Solar Sabbath.
The ministry therefore became increasingly identified with the Lunar Sabbath controversy.
That brought opposition.
Much of it came from people who continued to observe Saturday. Some were simply unconvinced. Others were deeply offended by the suggestion that Saturday observance might not constitute obedience to the biblical Sabbath.
We understood why.
We had once stood where they stood.
We knew how difficult the message could sound.
But opposition had an unexpected effect upon WLC: it forced us to study more deeply.
Every objection became another question to investigate.
Every criticism required us to return to Scripture.
Every challenge forced us to examine whether our position could withstand scrutiny.
And instead of weakening our conviction, the process increasingly strengthened it.
Opposition Became an Unexpected Blessing
In retrospect, some of the strongest development of WLC’s teaching on the Sabbath came because people opposed it.

Saturday in Scripture (Radio Episode)
If nobody had challenged us, we might have stopped our investigation too early.
But critics raised questions about the weekly cycle. They challenged the relationship between the moon and the biblical months. They questioned the crucifixion chronology. They appealed to historical Sabbath observance. They cited church authorities and theologians. They argued that the weekly cycle had never been interrupted.
We had to examine these arguments.
And this produced something valuable.
The ministry developed an enormous body of material defending the Luni-Solar calendar. What began with the unexpected arrival of a single book eventually became a major area of WLC’s teaching ministry.
The history of WLC’s Sabbath teaching, therefore, cannot be separated from the opposition that followed.
In an important sense, the opposition became part of the education.
It compelled us to move beyond simply saying, “We believe this,” and to ask, “Why do we believe this? Can we demonstrate it from Scripture? Can we answer the strongest objections?”
The result was the extensive body of Sabbath and calendar material now preserved on the World’s Last Chance website.
That archive is itself a historical record of the journey.
The Deeper Wound: Religious Authority
There was another dimension to this discovery that proved more difficult than the calendar question itself.
We had to confront the possibility that religious authorities could sincerely teach something that was not actually supported by Scripture.
This is an uncomfortable lesson.
Most believers do not deliberately surrender their conscience to human beings. They seek teachers for guidance. They trust pastors, ministers, theologians, denominations, seminaries, and respected religious institutions because they believe these people have carefully studied the Scriptures.
When those authorities repeatedly tell us that something is biblical, we naturally assume that the matter has already been thoroughly examined.
The discovery of the Luni-Solar Sabbath taught us a painful lesson:
Sincerity in religious leadership does not guarantee truth.

The Saturday Swindle – Part 1 (Video)
Scripture itself warns believers to “prove all things” (1 Thessalonians 5:21) and commands, “Let God be true, but every man a liar” (Romans 3:4).
The Bereans were commended because they did not simply accept Paul’s teaching on the authority of his position. They searched the Scriptures daily “whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11).
That became increasingly important to WLC.
The authority of Scripture must stand above denominational authority.
The Adventist Connection
The history became even more striking when we investigated what had happened within the Seventh-day Adventist movement.
The Vornholt book drew upon historical material concerning earlier Adventist investigations into calendar questions. The subject was not simply a twenty-first-century invention.
Historical material connected with the Grace Amadon Collection at Andrews University became particularly important in later discussions of the subject. Researchers into the Adventist history of the controversy have pointed to extensive archival material concerning calendar research and the work of committees investigating calendar reform and related questions.
According to accounts circulated by proponents of the Luni-Solar Sabbath, Adventist researchers in the twentieth century encountered evidence that raised difficult questions about the relationship among the biblical calendar, the crucifixion chronology, and the continuous Saturday-based weekly cycle.
The historical materials of the Grace Amadon Collection at Andrews University were immensely significant to WLC because they demonstrated that questions about the biblical calendar had arisen within Adventism long before WLC encountered them. The issue had a history.
Why Would Religious Leaders Resist Such a Discovery?
A change from Saturday Sabbath observance to a calendar-based Sabbath would not be a minor doctrinal adjustment for a denomination built around seventh-day observance.
It would affect identity.
It would affect congregational worship.
It would affect church schedules.
It would affect relationships between members and institutions.
It could create division.
And therefore, the temptation to suppress an inconvenient discovery can be powerful.
The historical record surrounding Adventist calendar research deserves continued examination precisely because institutional pressure can influence how controversial discoveries are handled.
But WLC learned a principle that goes beyond Adventism:
Truth must never be sacrificed for institutional unity.
Yahuwah’s truth cannot become less true because accepting it would cause controversy.
Yahushua said, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17).
Truth is not determined by majority vote.
It is not established by denominational consensus.
It does not become false because accepting it costs us, friends.
The Price of Changing
The cost of accepting the Luni-Solar Sabbath was real.

The Saturday Swindle – Part 2 (Video)
WLC became the subject of ridicule.
Former allies rejected the teaching.
People who had respected the ministry began treating it as though it had abandoned biblical Christianity.
The very people with whom we had once shared a common Sabbath conviction could now regard us as deceived.
But this experience taught us something important about obedience.
The cost of truth is sometimes rejection.
Yahushua warned His followers that obedience to truth could bring opposition. Paul likewise wrote that “all that will live godly in Christ Yahushua shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12).
This does not mean that every persecuted person is automatically right.
Persecution is not proof of truth.
But neither is popularity proof of truth.
The question must always return to Scripture.
If a teaching is false, reject it—even if it is popular.
If a teaching is true, follow it—even if it is unpopular.
Looking Back at the Shock
There is an irony in the history.
At first, discovering the Luni-Solar Sabbath did not feel like receiving wonderful news.
It felt like discovering that we had been deceived.
That realization hurt.
Nobody enjoys discovering that something they have trusted for decades may have been wrong.
Nobody likes learning that religious authorities they respected may have passed along an assumption without adequately testing it.
Nobody enjoys admitting, “I was wrong.”
Yet humility requires us to value truth more than our previous position.
The apostle Paul provides a powerful example. He had been deeply committed to the traditions of his fathers. Yet when confronted by Yahushua, he had to reconsider everything he had previously believed.
Truth required change.
The same principle applies to every believer.
We must never make our previous understanding an idol.
If Scripture reveals that we have misunderstood something, the correct response is not to defend our history. It is to correct our course.
The Great Blessing: Yahuwah’s Clock in the Heavens

Jews & the Sabbath (Article)
Today, the greatest blessing WLC associates with this journey is not merely that we changed the day on which we rest.
It is that we came to appreciate Yahuwah’s own system for measuring sacred time.
The heavens are not accidental decorations.
Genesis says that the lights in the firmament were appointed to govern signs, appointed times, days, and years (Genesis 1:14).
Psalm 19:1 declares that “the heavens declare the glory of Yahuwah.”
Psalm 104:19 says, “He appointed the moon for seasons.”
The heavenly bodies therefore testify to the Creator’s order.
The Luni-Solar calendar, as understood by WLC, directs our eyes away from human institutions and back toward the heavens Father Yahuwah created.
That is why the Sabbath has become more meaningful to us.
We are not simply following a day printed on a modern calendar.
We are seeking to follow the Creator’s clock.
A Warning for Future Generations
The history of this discovery should be preserved because future generations may face the same temptation that confronted us: accepting inherited religious traditions without personally investigating their biblical foundation.
We want those who come after us to understand that WLC did not begin with a desire to abandon Saturday.
We began as Saturday keepers.
We had every reason to continue as we were.
The change came because a question was placed before us that we could not honestly ignore.
We investigated it.
We compared arguments.
We examined Scripture.
We studied historical evidence.
We faced opposition.
We reconsidered our assumptions.
And we became convinced.
That distinction is important.
The ministry did not abandon the Sabbath.
We believe we discovered the Sabbath more accurately.
That is the testimony we leave for future generations.
The Sabbath We Now Delight In
What began in 2009 with a book placed in our hands ultimately transformed the ministry’s understanding of sacred time.

The Sabbath: Gift of Yah (Video)
The initial discovery tasted bitter because it exposed the possibility that we had spent years sincerely observing the wrong day.
But the bitterness eventually gave way to something much sweeter.
Today we can truly delight in the Sabbath.
Isaiah 58:13–14 speaks of calling the Sabbath a delight and honoring Yahuwah’s holy day. That word, “delight,” has become especially meaningful to us.
We do not want the Sabbath to be merely a religious obligation.
We want it to be an appointment with our Creator.
We want to know that when we stop our ordinary activities and devote ourselves to Father Yahuwah, we are responding to His calendar, not merely to the calendar of human civilization.
This is why the Luni-Solar Sabbath became so important to WLC.
The issue is ultimately larger than Saturday versus another day.
It is about whose authority defines sacred time.
Does humanity define it?
Does tradition define it?
Does an institution define it?
Or does Father Yahuwah?
For WLC, the answer is Father Yahuwah.
He established the heavenly lights.
He appointed the times.
He sanctified the seventh day.
He gave humanity the signs by which His appointed times can be recognized.
Our responsibility is not to redesign His clock.
It is to learn how to read it.
A Legacy Worth Preserving
Future generations should know that this journey was not easy.
It cost us friendships.
It brought ridicule.
It generated controversy.
It required countless hours of research.
It forced us to reconsider deeply held beliefs.
But truth is worth the cost.
The history of WLC’s Luni-Solar Sabbath teaching stands as a testimony to one central principle: when Scripture and tradition appear to conflict, Scripture must win.
|
The history of WLC’s Luni-Solar Sabbath teaching therefore stands as a testimony to one central principle: when Scripture and tradition appear to conflict, Scripture must win.
The ministry will forever be grateful for the work of Elaine Vornholt and Laura Lee Vornholt-Jones, whose The Great Calendar Controversy served as the catalyst for our own investigation. Their book confronted us with a question we had not adequately asked before.
That question changed our lives.
But ultimately, we do not rest our faith upon the authority of their book, any other human author, or even WLC.
We rest it upon the Word of Father Yahuwah.
The book opened the door.
The investigation took us through it.
Scripture became the standard.
And conviction followed.
What began as a devastating shock eventually became one of the greatest blessings in the history of the ministry.
We discovered that following truth sometimes means admitting that we were wrong.
We discovered that religious authorities can be sincerely mistaken.
We discovered that institutional unity must never be valued above obedience to Father Yahuwah.
We discovered that opposition can drive us deeper into the Word.
And, above all, we discovered that the Creator has not left His people without witnesses to His appointed times.
The heavens still declare His glory.
The moon still marks His appointed times.
The sun still rules the day.
The stars still testify to His order.
Do not inherit your beliefs blindly. Search the Scriptures. Test every tradition. Follow the evidence wherever it leads. And when Father Yahuwah reveals His truth, treasure it more highly than reputation, popularity, tradition, or institutional approval.
|
And Father Yahuwah’s calendar remains written across the heavens.
Therefore, after all these years, we look back with gratitude.
We are grateful for the shock.
We are grateful for the questions.
We are grateful even for the opposition.
Because those things drove us to search more deeply.
And after the long investigation, we came to treasure something we had not understood before:
The Sabbath is not merely a day handed down by religious tradition. It is a divine appointment established by the Creator Himself.
For WLC, that discovery changed everything.
And we pray that future generations will never forget the lesson.
Do not inherit your beliefs blindly. Search the Scriptures. Test every tradition. Follow the evidence wherever it leads. And when Father Yahuwah reveals His truth, treasure it more highly than reputation, popularity, tradition, or institutional approval.
For now, we can say with joy that the Sabbath has become a delight.
We are no longer looking primarily to a human-made calendar to tell us when Yahuwah’s holy day has arrived.
We are looking upward.
We are looking to the heavens.
We are looking to Yahuwah’s clockwork.
And we are grateful that, by His grace, He allowed us to discover what we believe is His true Sabbath.
How WLC Discovered Yahuwah’s Sabbath
[Verse 1]
In two-thousand-nine, a book came our way,
And it challenged the Sabbath we kept every day.
We thought we were faithful, we thought we were right,
Till Yahuwah revealed a much greater light.
[Verse 2]
Elaine and Laura-Lee brought questions to view,
Questions that shook us and forced us anew.
We searched through the Scriptures, both sides we explored,
And found that Yahuwah alone is our Lord.
[Chorus]
We will follow Your truth, Father Yahuwah,
Not the ways handed down by the sons of man.
Your moon and Your sun mark the times You ordained,
Your Sabbath is holy, forever unchanged.
WLC will proclaim what Your Word has revealed,
Your heavenly calendar shall never be concealed.
[Verse 3]
The shock tasted bitter when truth first appeared,
To learn we were deceived through the years we had feared.
But sweeter grew truth as our hearts understood,
That following Yahuwah was righteous and good.
[Verse 4]
Then came the voices that mocked and opposed,
Saturday keepers who said we had closed
Our hearts to tradition, our minds to the past,
But every new challenge our studies held fast.
[Bridge]
The heavens declare the glory of Your name,
The sun and the moon still proclaim You the same.
Your appointed times are written above,
Your Sabbath reminds us of covenant love.
Though truth may bring ridicule, rejection, or cost,
We will never abandon what You have not lost.
[Verse 5]
We learned that tradition can sometimes deceive,
And human authority is not what we need.
Like faithful Bereans, Your Word we will test,
For truth must be treasured above all the rest.
[Final Chorus]
We delight in Your Sabbath, Father Yahuwah,
We lift up our eyes to the heavens You made.
Not calendars changing by human decree,
But Your clockwork above tells the times faithfully.
WLC will stand for the truth we have found,
With Your sacred Sabbath our hearts shall resound.
[Outro]
The heavens still speak, and Your signs still remain,
Your appointed times return again and again.
We searched, we discovered, we chose to obey—
Father Yahuwah, lead us in Your holy way.

I know there is a lot of difference within Lunar Solar keepers of what day it actually starts and when it starts sundown, sunrise, sundown to sundown, sunrise to sunrise? I am sure you have written an article on this?
Hi Ryan,
You can find WLC’s content on the Creator’s Calendar and the parameters of a Biblical day here: https://www.worldslastchance.com/directory/#creator-s-calendar
Note: Under the “Creator’s Calendar” category, there is a sub-category entitled, “Scriptural Beginning of the Day.”
In Yahuwah’s Love,
lee (wlc team)
Brother Ryan,
Thank you for the thoughtful question. Yes, WLC has addressed this important subject in detail. We believe Scripture provides the principles for determining both when the Biblical day begins and when the Sabbath begins and ends. These questions should be settled by the testimony of Scripture rather than by tradition or personal preference.
We appreciate you raising this, because understanding how Yahuwah’s appointed times are reckoned is just as important as identifying which days He appointed. May Yahuwah continue to lead us into all truth. 🙏❤️
For a people that profess to Have The Truth, you sure make it impossible to FIND ‼️
We understand the frustration, but this article is actually intended to make the journey easier to FIND—not harder. WLC did not simply announce a new belief; we documented how we arrived at it, including the questions, investigation, objections, and Scriptural reasoning that led us from Saturday observance to the Luni-Solar Sabbath.
We invite you to search, test, and challenge everything we teach. Truth does not fear investigation. ❤️
Dear WLC:
Praise Yahuwah God Almighty! 🥰❤️
Thank you WLC for allowing Father Yahuwah God Almighty to move you to sharing His truth about the lunar Sabbath which is connected to the New Moon Day and using the sun, moon and stars for measuring time. 🥰❤️
At first I did not believe in a lunar Sabbath. But after investigating I became convinced and I memorized Scripture to sustain my beliefs in Yahuwah’s Word. 🥰❤️
Dear Father Yahuwah God Almighty who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily spiritual bread. And forgive our trasspasses and sins and give us the humility to forgive trespasses and sins of others. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. In Yahushua’s name I pray, amen.
Dear Father Yahuwah God Almighty: Please protect and provide for the WLC Team, former members of the WLC Team, and the WLC community, myself included and translators like Bazil from South Africa who seek to cooperate with WLC in sharing Your truth to the world. In Yahushua’s name I pray, amen. 🥰❤️
In Yahuwah’s service and love, 🥰 ❤️
Tony Bruni
Amen, Beloved Tony! ❤️🙏 Thank you for your heartfelt words and especially for your prayers for the WLC Team, former team members, translators, and the entire WLC community. We praise Father Yahuwah for leading each of us into greater understanding of His Word. May He continue to guide us, humble us, protect us, and give us the courage to follow truth wherever His Word leads. May Father Yahuwah richly bless you, Tony, and keep you steadfast in His service through Master Yahushua. ❤️🙏
