Gen. 2:17 - Would you please explain why Adam didn't die on the day he ate the fruit of knowledge of good and evil?

Question: As written in Scripture "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shall not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Gen.2:17. Would you please explain why Adam didn't die on the day he ate the fruit of knowledge of good and evil?

Answer: Adam died spiritually within the same 24 hour period in the sense that he immediately lost the initial promise of immortality, brought the curse of death upon himself and subsequently the whole human race. The first evidence was that he could no longer meet with his Creator face to face and ‘hid’ himself.

He died physically within 1000 years which is as one day with Yahuwah.

"And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died." (Genesis 5:5)

"But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with Yahuwah as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.  Yahuwah is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:8, 9) [Read the whole chapter.]

Yahuwah used the occasion to reveal His longsuffering love, His hidden plan of grace and redemption for man, and to refute Satan’s claim that He was an unjust ruler.
