The various denominations that come under the heading of Holiness Churches have been blessed with great truth. Their understanding of the process of sanctification whereby believers are restored fully to the image of Yahuwah is very deep and beautiful. They have a love for Yahuwah that is reflected in their desire to bring their lives in conformity to His will.
Despite the many truths held by these churches, Heaven is sounding the clarion call to go out of all churches clinging to error. Following is a list of some of the errors found within the various Holiness Churches.
- Considering their mature understanding of obedience to the divine law as the loving heart-response from redeemed souls, it is surprising that the Holiness Churches worship on Sunday. This practice is typically founded upon the belief that Yahushua’s resurrection occurred on the first day of the week. However, nothing in Scripture says the Ten Commandments were done away with, or "nailed to the cross." Indeed, if the divine law could have been changed, Yahushua need not have died!
Furthermore, Sunday did not exist in the early Julian calendar of Yahushua’s day. The modern Gregorian calendar is a papal solar calendar, based on a pagan solar calendar. Only the luni-solar calendar of Creation can accurately establish when the true times of worship occur.
- Most Holiness Churches celebrate the gift of Yahuwah’s Son to save sinners at Christmas and Easter. Sadly, such observances actually dishonor Yahuwah for they come from paganism. Scripture delineates Yahuwah’s holy days and they are as binding today as when Yahushua and His disciples kept them.
- Holiness Churches hold a Trinitarian view of the nature of Yahuwah. This three-in-one doctrine comes from paganism, not Scripture, which clearly iterates: “Hear O Israel: Yahuwah our Eloah is one!” (Deuteronomy 6:4) The Bible makes plain that Yahushua, while born of a virgin, is a human being - not a diety.
- Many Holiness Churches believe the reward of sinners is conscious awareness in eternal hell. Such a belief is based on a misunderstanding of certain texts taken out of context. A careful review of Scripture, comparing verse with verse, reveals the error of this doctrine. The Bible states that death, not eternal life being tortured, is the punishment of the wicked: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of Yah is eternal life through Yahushua the Annointed our Master.” (Romans 6:23)
- Holiness Churches teach that the redeemed will inherit Heaven. Scripture, however, teaches the immortality in the earth made new is the reward of the saints.
- Most Holiness Churches today accept speaking in unknown tongues. While Yahuwah has certainly given the gift of tongues, both in apostolic and modern times, most modern episodes of glossolalia are inconsistent with the speaking in tongues recorded in sacred Scripture. During the early Church, the gift of tongues was given for the express purpose of spreading the gospel message. Thus, when given as a gift of the Spirit, it was always heard with intelligent understanding.
It is natural to crave this obvious sign of true Spirit infilling and the early Christians did, too. At Corinth, some of the believers began speaking in unknown tongues as are the majority of occasions of modern “speaking in tongues.” Patiently and gently, Paul corrected them, explaining the difference between the true gift of tongues given by Yahuwah for spreading truth versus the unintelligible gibberish that is common today: “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself.” (1 Corinthians 14:4) To “edify” or “build” oneself is contradictory to the example of Yahushua who was “meek and lowly in heart.” (Matthew 11:29)
Heaven invites the sincere members of the Holiness Churches to compare their beliefs with Scripture, lay aside that which is error, and follow the Lamb into all truth.
