Is The Bible God's Word? Print E-mail

Is the Bible is perfect? The messages of the Bible are perfect. The translations of the Bible are not perfect but that does not make the Bible in error.

The Bible contains many apparent mistakes and inconsistencies. However, the Bible reveals just the Savior every human heart needs. How can an uninspired book contain all the principles so perfectly adapted to the wants and desire of a fallen world?

The following are seven reasons why we believe the Bible is true and is they only source of truth:

  1. Evidence of Internal Consistency. The Bible consists of different 66 books written by 37 different authors over a period of about 1,500 years on three different continents. Probably the most controversial and volatile subject in all human history is “Is there a God”? Let’s choose another subject not nearly as controversial, for example, food. Now select 37 different authors from the US to compile their thoughts and ideas about food. Do you think if we compiled all their writings together we would be in harmony? One author may say the best food is raw meat, the other green leafy vegetables, the other fruits.

If there isn’t harmony between 37 contemporary authors who all come from the same background to agree on something as simple as food doesn’t it strike you as incredible that 37 different authors over a period spanning of 1,500 years on 3 continents from a myriad of cultures from various different social-economic backgrounds that they could write on the most controversial subject in history and they could be in harmony.

  1. Evidence of History. All true and genuine history confirms and corroborates the Bible record.

  1. Testimony of Archeology. US News stated that there has never been a single evidence of archeology in history that has contradicted what the Bible said.
  1. Testimony of Science. All true science agrees with the Bible. In fact many of the great scientists of history have been Bible believing Christians (Newton, Einstein, Kepler, Copernicus , Galileo, Sir Francis Bacon, Gregor Mendel, William Thomson Kelvin, to name a few). There is no contradiction between true science and the Bible.
  1. Testimony of Relevancy. The Bible began 1500BC. When people pick up this book in search of the truth they find what they are looking for. All their needs are met. The Bible was relevant in the time of Moses, it was relevant in the time of Jesus and even today it is still relevant to modern society. It is incredible that a book could speak to eloquently to a modern generation.
  1. The testimony of a changed life. Any Christian that you meet that has surrendered their life to Jesus will tell you that their life has changed when they began to read the Bible. The drunkard man will become sober man, the thief becomes an honest man. The Bible has the power to change the life and heart of man.
  1. The testimony of prophecy. Prophecy is the prediction of future events; a forecast. To forecast the future reliably you would have to know what will happen before it happens. One-third of the Bible contains specific prophecies that have been fulfilled. Who ever inspired this book knew not only the past and the present but knew the future as well.

“The greatest of all authorities on the law or rules of evidence is Simon Greenleaf, LL.D., late Professor of Law in Harvard University and the author of “Treatise on the Law of Evidence,” which is recognized throughout the legal world as almost the last word on the subject. The North American Review declared Simon Greenleaf to be “a writer of the highest authority on legal subjects, who life has been spent in weighing testimony and sifting evidence, and who published opinions on the rules of evidence are received as authoritative in all the English and American tribunals.” The London Law Magazines said regard this great American lawyer: “It is no mean honor to America that her schools of jurisprudence have produced two of the first writers and best esteemed legal authorities of this century – the great and good man, Judge Story, and his worthy and eminent associate, Professor Greenleaf. Upon the existing ‘Law of Evidence’ (by Greenleaf), more light has shone from the New World than from all the lawyers who adorn the courts of Europe.”  These two statements show the legal stand of the man whose testimony we shall take regarding the credibility of the Gospel writers as witnesses to the trial and crucifixion of Jesus.

In 1903, Simon Greenleaf published a book entitled “The Testimony of the Evangelists Examined by the Rules of Evidence Administered in Courts of Justice.” In this book the noted jurists puts the scriptural record to the legal tests, and declares it to be admissible and dependable evidence. He wrote: “Every document, apparently ancient, coming from the proper repository or custody, and bearing on its face no evident marks of forgery, the law presumes to be genuine, and devolves on the opposing party the burden of proving it to be otherwise . . . . The burden of showing them [ancient documents] to be false and unworthy of credit, is devolved on the party who makes that objection. The presumption of law is the judgment of charity. It presumes that every man is innocent until he is proved guilty; that everything has been done fairly and legally, until it is proved to have been otherwise; and that every document, found in its proper repository, and not bearing marks of forger, is genuine.” – Pages 7, 8.

In applying this argument to the credibility of the four Gospels, Greenleaf says: “If any ancient document concerning our public rights were lost, copies which has been as universally received and acts upon as the four Gospels have been, would have been received in evidence in any of our courts of justice, without the slightest hesitation. The entire text of the Corpus Juris Civilis is received as authority in all the courts of Continental Europe, upon much weaker evidence of genuineness; for the integrity of the Sacred Text has been preserved by the jealousy of opposing sects, beyond any moral possibility of corruption . . .It is quite erroneous to suppose that the Christian is bound to offer any further proof of their genuineness or authenticity. It is for the objector to show them spurious; for on him, by the plainest rules of law, lies the burden of proof.” –Pages 9, 10.

Greenleaf lays down the following rule as to credible testimony: “In absence of circumstances which generate suspicion, every witness is to be presumed credible, until the contrary is shown; the burden of impeaching his credibility lying on the objector.” The writer then applies this well-established rule of evidence to the testimony of the Gospel witnesses: “This rule serves to show the injustice with which the writers of the Gospels have ever been treated by infidels; any injustice silently acquiesced in even by Christians; in requiring the Christian affirmatively, and by positive evidence . . . to establish the credibility of his witnesses above all others, before their testimony is entitled to be considered, and in permitting the testimony of a single profane writer, alone and uncorroborated, to outweigh that of any single Christian. . . . It is time that this injustice should cease; that the testimony of the evangelists should be admitted to be true, until it can be disproved by those who would impugn it; that the silence of one sacred write on any point, should no more detract from his own veracity or that of the other historians, than the like circumstances is permitted to do among profane writers; and that the four evangelists should be admitted in corroboration of each other, as readily as Josephus and Tacitus, or Polybius and Livy.” Id., pages 25,26.

. . . There are many questions in every realm of life and sphere of thought that no person can answer to the satisfaction of the questioner or even of himself. Asking questions is always easier than answering them; and the Christian can ask the skeptic more puzzling questions than the skeptic can ask the Christian. The Christian has the right at least to demand that he ask every other question. But according to the well-established rules of evidence recognized in every court in the world, the Christian does not need to answer any of the sceptics’ questions regarding the credibility of the Scriptures, because they would be accepted as reliable testimony, and , if their authority were questioned, the burden of proof would be thrown back upon the objector. It is the duty of the critic to prove his criticism, rather than that of the Christian to answer it.

The above was quoted from “Behold the Man” by Taylor G. Bunch, page 86-89.

......So at the critical moment"HE SPILLED IT ON THE GROUND.... AND THE THING HE DID DISPLEASED THE LORD:WHEREFORE HE SLEW HIM ALSO.["Genesis38;9-10"] Again, where does this slaying fit into Timothy's test? "REPROOF!"is the answer again. No prizes are offered for these easy answers. They are so basic . DO WRONG and bear the consequence!Onan is forgotten in the "Book of God," but christian sexologists have immortalized him by referring to"oitus interruptus," as Onanism in their "Book of Sex".
Now Judah tells his daughter-in-law, Tamar, to return to her father's house until his third son Shelah attains manhood, when she will be brought back so that he can do his duty.
Shelah grows up and is,perhaps, married to another woman. But Judah had not fulfilled his obligation to Tamar. Deep in his heart he is terrified. HE Has already lost two sons on account of this "witch,"-"LEST PERADVENTURE HE[Shelah]DIE ALSO, AS HIS BRETHERN DID"[Genesis 38:11] So Judah conveniently for gets his promise. The aggrieved young lady resolves to take revenge on her father-in-law for depriving her of her "seed" right.
Tamar learned that Judah is going to Timnath to sheern his sheep. She plans to get even with him on the way. She forestalls him, and goes and sits in a open place en route to Timnath. When Judah sees her, he thinks she is a harlot because she has covered her face. He come up to her and proposes-"ALLOW ME TO COME IN UNTO THEE;AND SHE SAID WHAT WILT THOU GIVE ME,THAT THOU MAYEST COME IN UNTO ME?" He promises that he would send her a goat kid from his flock. What guarantee could she have that he would send it? What guarantee did she require, Judah queried."His rng, his bracelet and his staff" is the ready answer. The old man hands these possessions to her,and "CAME IN UNTO HER,AND SHE CONCIEVED BY HIM".[Genesis 38:16-18
Before we seek the heading from Timothy 3:16 under which to categorize this filthy, dirty story from the "BOOK of GOD", "I am tempted to ask, as you would be tempted to ask; what is the moral[?]lesson that our children will learn from Tamar's sweet revenge?Of course we do tell our children, fables, not really for their enter tainment value, but that thrugh them some moral may be imparted."The Fox and the Grapes,"etc. However simple or silly the story,a moral is aimed at.
Three month later, as things were bound to turn out, news reached Judah that his daughter-in-law,Tamar,had played the "harlot"and that she was with "CHILD BY WHOREDOM AND JUDAH SAID,BRING HER FORTH,AND LET HER BE BURNT." Genesis[ 38;24].Judah had deliberately spurned her as a "witch" and now he sadistically wants to burn her.But this wiley jewess was one up on the old man.She sent the "ring the"bracelet,"and the "staff" with a servent, beseeching her father-in-law to find the culprit responsible for her pregnancy.Judah was in a fix.He confessed that his daughter-in-law was more "RIGHTEOUS" than himself, and "HE KNEW HER AGAIN NO MORE."[VERSE26].It is quite an experience to compare the choice of language in which the different Versions discribe the same incident. The Jehova's Witnesses in their "New World Translation" translate the last quotation as-"HE HAD NO FURTHER INTERCOURSE WITH HER AFTER THAT" This is not the last we will hear about in the "BOOK OF GOD" OF THIS TAMAR Whom the Gospel writers have immortalized in their "Genealogy of their Lord.'
I do not want to bore you with details, but the end verses of Genesis 38 deal with a duel in Tamar's womb:about the twins struggling for ascendancy. The Jews were very meticulous about recording their "first borns." The first- born got the lion's share of their father's patrimony.Who are the lucky winners in this prental race? There are four in this unique contest. They are ". PHAREZ and ZARAH of TAMAR by JUDAH". How? you will see presently. But first, let us have the moral. What is the moral in this episode? You remember Er and Onan ; how God distroyed them for their several sins? And the lessons we have learnt in each case was "REPROOF," Under what catagory of Timothy will you place the incest of Judah, and his illegitimate progeny? All these characters are honoured in the "BOOK OF GOD" for their bastardy. They become the great grandfathers and great grandmother of the"ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD"? If you do "evil"[Er], God will slay you; if you spill "seed"[Onan], God will kill you, but a daugter-in-law[Tamar] who vengefully and guilefully collect her father-in-law's[Judah's] "seed" is rewarded. Under what category will the Christians place this "honour" in the "BOOK of GOD"? wHERE DOES IT FIT? IS IT... YOUR?
1 DOCTRINE?
2 REPROOF?
3 CORRECTION?
4 INSTRUCTION INTO RIGHTEOUSNESS?

MOST OBJECTIVE........[2]
written by Salimuddin Ansari, August 18, 2009
The ROMAN CATHOLICS in their "Douay" Version, are also more faithful to the text than the Protestants in their AUTHORISED VERSON,. They say; "ALL SCRIPTURE, INSPIRED OF GOD, IS POFITABLE TO TEACH ,TO REPROVE,TO CORRECT...."
We will not guibble with words. Muslims and Chritians are agreed that whatever emanates from God, whether through in spiration or by revelation, must serve one of four purposes-
1. It must either teach us DOCTRINE;
2, REPROVE us for our error;
3. Offer us CORRECTION;
4. Guide us into RIGHTEOUSNESS.
I have been asking learned men of Christianity for the past twenty years, whether thet can supply a FIFTH"peg" to hang the WORD OF GOD on. They have failed signally. That does not mean that Ihave improved upon their performance.Let us examine the "HOLY BIBLE" WITH THESE OBJECTIVE TESTS.
the very book pf the Bible-Genesis- provides us with many beautiful examples. Open chapter 38 and read. We are given here the history of Judah, the father of thejEWISH RACE,FROM WHOM WE DERIVE THE NAMES'Judea" and '"Judaism". This patriarch of the jews got married and God granted him three sons,Er,Onan and Shelah. When the first-born was big enough, Judah had him married to a lady called Tamar."BUT ER, JUDAH'S FIRST -BORN WAS WICKED IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD;AND THE LORD SLEW HIM [GENESIS 38;7].Under what heading, from the above four principles of Timothy will you place this sad news? The second-"REPROVE"is the answer.Er was wicked so God killed him.A lesson for all, God will destroy us for wickedness.REPROOF!
Continuing with this jewish history, according to their custom, if a brother died and left no offspring,it was the duty of the other brother to give "seed" to his sister-in-law so that the deceased's name might perpetuated.Judah,in honour of this custom, orders his second son Onan to do his duty .But jealousy enters his heart. It will his seed but the name will be his brother's!So at critical moment

MOST OBJECTIVE TESTIMONY
written by Salimuddin Ansari, August 18, 2009
The Christian propagandist is very fond of quoting the following verse as proof that his Bible is the Word of God.
"All scripture IS given by inspiration of God, and IS profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness".[2tIMOTHY 3;16-av by SCOFIELD]
Note the " IS's" in capitals do not occur in the original Greek."THE NEW ENGLISH BIBLE" TRANSLATED BY A COMMITTEE "EVERY INSPIRED SCRIPTUREB HAS ITS USE FOR TEACHING THE TRUTH AND REFUTING ERROR, OR FOR REFORMATION OF MANNER AND DISCIPLINE IN RIGHT LIVING' 2TIMOTHY 3;16

God in....Bible...Know as is...correctly...
written by I B Khandel. Know the God correctly as is..., March 15, 2009
This Infinite eternal existence ( Space) which is one, is Supreme God. A prime & Supreme soul. A Ishwar . A “Allah“. He is everywhere. All power comes from his limitless being !

KNOW THE GOD CORRECTLY..

GOD is Holy. He is without fault, perfect in every way.

HE is eternal, meaning HE has no beginning and no end---HE has always been and will always continue to be. HE knows everything... is everywhere, and is in control of every detail from the working of the infinitesimal quark to the movement of every star in every galaxy. But though HE is All-Powerful and could destroy the entire universe with a single glance, HE is love itself.

HE is perfect peace, amazing grace, matchless joy, marvelous mercy, and boundless kindness. But though HE tenderly and graciously lifted us from the jaws of destruction, HE is a GOD of fierce fire and holy wrath. He hates sin and cannot, no matter what the pain in our lives, allow it to remain in our souls. HE is the truest justice, the most excellent righteousness, and the purest goodness. HE is majestically patient, perfectly faithful, and passionately in love with HIS children. HE is more beautiful, more powerful, and more wonderful than any description that could possibly be mustered with the limited vocabulary of human beings. And such is the GOD we have only begun to know.

(God) is universal thermal power and universe is condensed form of itself
written by I B Khandel. Know the God correctly as is..., March 15, 2009
Question : God is light or love ?

Answer : God is ‘lightening (Agni) and atoms or souls are condensed form of it. It means atom or soul is spark, thus “Ishwar” (God) is universal thermal power and universe is condensed form of itself. God has two parts – one is space and another is lightening.

It is written in the ‘ Bible ’ as :

1. If somebody says that he loves God but hates his brother, then he is a liar. Because the brother is also a fruit of the same tree ( God ) which he himself belongs to.

2. 'O' beloved ! Now we are his children and yet. Nothing has been disclosed what we would be. We know only this much that we will be like ‘him’ when he shows himself. We will see him as exactly as what he is. Our presence in the world is as he has.

3. God is love, and whoever carries love in himself, remains with God.

4 . ‘O’ ancestors ! I am writing you because whoever is there from the beginning, you know him.

5. God is light and nothing is dark in it.

smilies/grin.gifo not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything because it is found and written in your religious books
Do not believe in anything merely on authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed over for many Generations.
But after observation and analysis when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conductive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it”

All scripture is given by inspiration of God...
written by Natalie K, February 07, 2009
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." 2 Timothy 3:16, 17.

God did create a perfect earth, but then sin came into the world and ruined everything. God saved us from sin and it is up to us to decide whether we want to be saved from sin or not. The absence of God is sin, He did not create it. It is because we have the capacity to choose, we have the freedom of choice, that we must be in this earth where the is suffering and sin so that we can of our own free wills choose what we want, and according to our choice, we will receive the result of that choice in the end, when sin and sadness will finally be destroyed.

I hope that this answers your question, I B Khandel.
God bless you!

In His love and service,
WLC Team
